The Digital Home Takes Center Stage at Motivation 2005 (28/11/2005)

Leading Industry Experts, Service Providers and Technology Vendors Gather Around Next-Generation, Broadband 2.0 Products and Services

At its sixth annual customer conference, Motivation 2005, Motive, Inc. (NASDAQ:MOTV) hosted some of the broadband industry's top service and technology providers as well as leading industry experts who shared innovations and ideas that are making the promise of the Digital Home a reality for consumers around the world. This year's conference theme, "Accelerate Your Advantage," highlighted the products and services as well as the management technology enabling the delivery of next-generation "Broadband 2.0," such as IPTV, home networking and Voice over IP (VoIP).

In his keynote address, Motive CEO Scott Harmon described the recent evolution from Broadband 1.0, which included simple high speed data services, to the latest Broadband 2.0 offerings, which represent a complex convergence of digital home technologies. The address included details on Motive's new automated management solutions that help providers gain more visibility and control over Broadband 2.0 services, and provide consumers a more customized and rewarding user experience.

"The Digital Home is no longer a futuristic exhibit at Epcot Center," said Harmon. "Whether we're using a VoIP phone to call our loved ones or checking caller ID on our television sets, Broadband 2.0 services are fast becoming an integral part of our everyday lives. Motive, and the companies gathered here today, are working together to make sure these services are as easy to use as a light switch, while providing the latest capabilities and innovations to transform our world."

Many advanced Broadband 2.0 innovations were on display in the Motivation 2005 Digital Home Pavilion. The pavilion included an up-close look at the latest IPTV, home networking, VoIP and high speed data technologies in action, as well as hands-on demonstrations of the newest Digital Home technology management solutions from Motive. Some of the highlights included:

-- Thomson IPTV set top boxes that support the digital convergence of home entertainment and communication services;

-- Intellon plug adapters that allow consumers to network their computers and related devices through their homes' standard electrical wall plugs;

-- Linksys, SMC Networks, NETGEAR and Conexant wireless home gateways that allow multiple devices in the home, such as televisions, computers and stereos, to wirelessly connect to the broadband pipe and to each other;

-- Multiple devices designed for consumer home networks, including network attached storage, Web cams and game consoles from vendors such as NETGEAR, D-Link and Sony;

-- Radialpoint consumer security services including anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, parental control and pop-up blocker services that help deliver a safe, secure Internet experience to consumers;

-- Motive management software solutions that help shield consumers and providers from the costly installation and ongoing management complexities of Digital Home technology and services by automating their activation, ongoing support and problem resolution processes.

Additional keynote speeches were delivered by renowned speakers, such as marketing strategist and author Jack Trout, who talked about the marketing challenges associated with the next generation of broadband; Daniel Pink, author of A Whole New Mind and Free Agency Nation; and finally, Zeke Robertson, EVP of Operations for SBC Operations Inc.

Finally, the conference hosted various Digital Home-related roundtable discussions and educational sessions with participants from leading business magazines and newspapers, technology companies, service providers and analyst firms.
