CEDIA UK Builds for Future Growth (16/11/2005)

Following a year of impressive growth, CEDIA UK looked to the future in positive mood at its recent Annual General Meeting, outlining expansion plans for membership, education, marketing and the CEDIA Expo. CEDIA Chairman, David Hyman, also announced the re-election of Stuart Tickle (AWE Europe) and Robin van Meeuwen (Crestron) to the CEDIA Board as Manufacturer / Distributor representatives for a further two years.

Simon Williams, CEDIA Vice Chairman, revealed that CEDIA UK membership now stands at 415, up 55 on last year's figure - a reflection of the strong growth within the sector, and the tangible benefits of CEDIA membership. CEDIA UK has identified membership growth in mainland Europe, the Middle East and Africa as a priority, and has created a volunteer manufacturer-supported committee led by CEDIA Board Member Dean Gillings to develop and support these markets.

Steve Martin, CEDIA Education Chair highlighted the 14 new courses created in the year; increasing course attendance from building professionals and rapid growth in the number of CEDIA certified members as important milestones in 2005. He announced plans for the opening of a dedicated new training centre, and the employment of a dedicated Training Manager as key developments. Targets for the year ahead include a dramatic expansion of the training course programme, improving the opportunities to gain CEU points and a determination to maintain high standards across the industry.

In marketing, CEDIA continues to build awareness of custom installation amongst house builders, architects, interior designers and consumers. The Association remains committed to participating at relevant exhibitions, such as, The Smart Home Show, Homebuilding & Renovating, 100% Detail, Show House, Plan Expo (Dublin) and Decorex. At the same time, Robin Courtenay, Marketing Chair announced progress on market research studies, the strengthening of links with other influential trade associations, such as RIBA and BIDA, and continuing investment in the successful PR campaign, run by Wildwood PR.

On the back of the most successful ever, CEDIA UK Expo in 2005, plans are well under way for Expo 2006 with the vast majority of floor space already reserved. The CEDIA Board is confident that the Exhibition, seminar programme & attendance will continue to grow, as the event will now be located at ExCeL London for three years, starting next June. CEDIA Expo runs from 19-22 June 2006.

The CEDIA AGM took place on Wednesday 12th October at the Thistle Hotel, Brighton. A copy of the AGM minutes is available through the CEDIA office.
