Parasound Introduces the Zpre2, a Miniature A/V Preamplifier with Two-Way RS-232 Control (31/10/2005)

Parasound has introduced the Zpre2, a high-quality two-channel audio/video preamplifier with a wide array of connectivity and control features, including two-way RS-232 control, making it ideal for custom installation and multizone applications. Part of the problem-solving Parasound Zcustom series of matched mini-components, the Zpre2 features a chassis that is just 1 rack space tall and 9-1/2 inches wide - half the width of a conventional audio component.

The Zpre2 includes four line-level audio and four composite video inputs to accommodate a full audio/video system in a remote zone, or for a mini-system in a bedroom, den, or dorm. There is a fixed line-level output for a recorder loop, and a variable line-level output for a power amplifier, such as Parasound's half-width Zamp v.3. There is also a high quality front panel headphone jack, including automatic line-out muting for private listening.

The Zpre2 is an audiophile grade component, with the same attention to design, parts selection, and performance as Parasound's acclaimed full-size components. It features gold plated RCA jacks, and a high quality analog motor-driven volume control for optimal signal fidelity. Front panel controls include an input selector, balance control, and bass and treble tone adjustments.

For use in whole house audio and control systems, the Zpre2 features advanced capabilities such as bidirectional RS-232 control, an external IR repeater input, and 12 Volt trigger in and out jacks. Input 1 includes a defeatable auto select priority function to facilitate use as a zone preamplifier, and there is a rear panel selector switch for manual or automatic power on/off. The included remote control features discrete power on and off codes to simplify programming and integration of control systems. There are four selectable IR codesets, allowing for individual remote control of up to four Zpre2s in a single home system.

The Zpre2 can be used in conjunction with an optional Zblank adaptor for mounting alone in a 19-inch rack, or with an SBS side-by-side adaptor for mounting alongside other Parasound Zcustom components, two abreast. The Zpre2 also includes no-mar isolation feet for standalone use, and a high quality removable AC power cord.

The Parasound Zpre2 is currently available at a suggested retail price of $350.

All of the Parasound Zcustom components are designed to meet the needs of consumers and custom installers for multi-room/multi-zone installations, PC and desktop audio, and bedroom or den stereo systems. The Zphono phonograph preamplifier, Zselect loudspeaker selector, Ztuner FM/AM tuner, Zamp v.3 stereo amplifier, and Zpre2 two channel preamplifier are all currently available. Additional components, including the Zhd HDMI digital A/V switcher and the Zbreeze rack system cooling fan, are forthcoming.
