Atlantic Technology Introduces the First of its In-Wall Closed Box Loudspeaker Systems (31/10/2005)

Atlantic Technology has introduced the IWCB-525 closed-box in-wall speaker system. The first of a new line of in-wall closed box designs, the IWCB-525 speaker's unique design is completely enclosed for improved performance, yet still mounts as simply as conventional open-air designs. Additional fully enclosed models in the IWCB line are forthcoming.

"The IWCB-525 is the best of both worlds," commented Atlantic Technology President Peter Tribeman. "It has the performance of our freestanding speakers, with the invisibility and simple installation of our in-wall speakers."

The IWCB-525 features a high quality silk dome tweeter and a heavy-duty 5-1/4-inch Mica/Graphite loaded polymer cone woofer. A second, matching 5-1/4-inch diaphragm is mounted as a bass pressure driver, improving linearity and extending bass response to 52 Hz.

In addition, the IWCB-525 includes a trio of acoustic controls to allow installers to tailor performance to the listening room. The first of these is Atlantic's exclusive DVC(tm) (Directional Vector Control), which is used to direct the tweeter's radiation pattern electronically without having to resort to clumsy mechanical swiveling devices. Secondly, a High Frequency Energy switch is used to adjust tweeter level for rooms that are acoustically bright or dull. Lastly, a Boundary Compensation toggle can be used to adjust the lower-midrange output to compensate for the sound colorations that occur when the speaker is placed near a ceiling or side wall. The speaker also includes an IR knockout, making it simple to integrate a remote IR sensor into the speaker front plate.

The Atlantic Technology IWCB-525 frame, speaker cabinet, and grille are all separate pieces, making it simple to install and paint the frame and grille, adding the speaker cabinet later.

The Atlantic Technology IWCB-525 will be available in December at a suggested retail price of $750 each.
