Canton Extends its AS Subwoofer Line with AS 60 SC,
AS 80 SC, and AS 100 SC (21/10/2005)
New drivers and more powerful amplifiers
provide major upgrade to the company's popular AS subwoofer line.
Canton has introduced three new models in
its popular AS line of active subwoofers for high-end audio and
home theater. All three use newly engineered woofers, delivering
the most powerful deep bass reproduction the company has ever offered
at these sizes and price classes. The initial line consists of three
models, the 120 Watt AS 60 SC, the 150 Watt AS 80 SC, and the 200
Watt AS 100 SC.
These subwoofers use a new series of redesigned
cellulose/graphite fiber cones that can achieve much higher output
levels with superior break-up resistance, improved stiffness, and
greater power handling than previous designs. The new drivers feature
Canton's patented sinusoidal surrounds and redesigned spiders, allowing
for substantially increased excursion capabilities and improved
lateral displacement control. The end result of these changes is
a 6 to 9 dB increase in subwoofer output in the deep bass range
for each model and lower distortion across the subwoofer's operating
range.
In order to take full advantage of the newly
developed driver and suspension assemblies, the AS subwoofers use
high power/high voltage Class AB amplifiers and large toroidal power
supply transformers. Each model also features Canton's well-proven
SC technology, which redefines the traditional relationship between
enclosure size and operating bandwidth. This active electronic filter
circuit is individually tailored for each model and integrated in
the amplification module to compensate for acoustic characteristics
of the enclosure and driver for optimum linearity. This effectively
blocks unwanted infrasonic signals that can cause excessive driver
excursion and improves the speaker's response across the operating
range.
Two of these new subwoofers, the AS 80 SC
and AS 100 SC, incorporate a newly developed Room Compensation (RC)
circuit, which can be used to improve subwoofer performance in many
rooms. The rear panel of each model includes an RC switch that allows
users to adjust the subwoofer's transfer function at low frequencies
to defeat the standing waves that can occur in many environments.
All of the AS subwoofers are housed in sturdy
enclosures constructed of low resonance MDF that is 1-inch thick
to minimize cabinet vibrations. All models feature variable crossover
settings, level control, and switchable phase adjustment. They are
available in several finishes, including black, silver, and attractive
bicolor designs of beech and silver or cherry and graphite.
The AS 60 SC features an 8-inch woofer and
120-Watt amplifier and is available at a suggested retail price
of $399.
The AS 80 SC employs a 9-inch woofer and
a 150-Watt amplifier and is available at a suggested retail price
of $499.
The AS 100 SC employs a 10-inch woofer and
a 200-Watt amplifier and is available at a suggested retail price
of $599.
