O2M8 and Taylor Locks announce alliance (3/10/2005)
O2M8(tm) Ltd, a UK company creating innovative
smart home solutions using WebBrick(tm) technology, and Taylor Locks,
a provider of smart locks for combining access control and security,
today announced an agreement to jointly create smart home solutions
that can be controlled and secured via the internet, providing compliance
to accepted insurance company security standards. The agreement
ensures that products defined by both companies work together and
marketing resources are combined to focus on smart homes and the
security market.
O2M8(tm) provides environmentally sensitive
and affordable smart home solutions for the UK. Their smart home
solutions use WebBrick(tm) technology, an industry proven cost-effective
internet-enabled process control unit with a full range of I/O interfaces.
The WebBrick uses standard technologies like Ethernet, HTML, HTTP
and XML to allow easy interfacing with other standards-compliant
equipment. WebBrick is configurable through a web browser to control
and monitor systems and equipment in a smart home. Using standard
technologies and open source software O2M8 offers flexible and expandable
systems that are ideal for home builders and developers.
Taylor Locks design and manufacture smart
security and access control systems. Their smart lock products are
unique in that they look and fit like traditional door locks. The
Taylor 500 for external doors uniquely combines a physical key with
a controlled electrical operation to throw or withdraw a 20mm deadbolt.
This combination provides a very effective access control mechanism
with true security. The Taylor 80 is targeted at internal use where
unauthorised entry can be prevented by making the external handle
inoperable. It provides an affordable solution where control is
desired for security but not for insurance purposes.
John Guyatt from O2M8 comments "this is a
super opportunity to bring industry- leading security and access
control products to smart homes. Taylor is a name long associated
with security and quality. O2M8 are excited to adapt the flexible
WebBrick(tm) technology to work with Taylor's new locks and provide
an internet-enabled security and access control system that fully
complies with insurance company requirements'.
Jeremy Marks-Terrey, marketing director for
Taylor Locks notes 'O2M8 have the technology available now which
will allow the Taylor lock range to be controlled and accessed over
the internet or other means like GSM/SMS, providing remote access
and controlled security from wherever the home owners are.
O2M8(tm) WebBrick(tm) products are available
in various forms including printed circuit boards and DIN rail mounted
enclosures. Taylor 500 and Taylor 80 products can be ordered now.
