Lagotek To Unveil Open Software-Based Approach To Home Automation (3/10/2005)

Lagotek Corporation will introduce a new and revolutionary approach to home automation at CEDIA, September 9 through 11. This new patent pending platform is software, rather than hardware, based, resulting in much more flexible solutions than the conventional hardware-based applications. The software-based system shown at CEDIA includes basic features for whole home control of HVAC, lighting (incandescent, LED and fiber optic), multi-location camera surveillance and home audio controls. Since it is based upon an open platform, ISVs (independent software vendors) will be in attendance showing example extensions such as security system integration. The demonstration system will be available for viewing and discussion with Lagotek's CEO, president and CTO at booth 4127.

"The home automation marketplace has been held back by costly and complicated hardware based solutions. We are breaking that mold by developing and marketing an open, software-based approach that replicates the way personal computing advanced into the mass market," said Eugene Luskin, chief executive officer of Lagotek Corporation. "We believe this approach will finally make home automation a standard feature of every home, both for new construction and the home remodel marketplace."

The Lagotek product line includes an open hardware platform reference design that is available to third parties. Since the platform launch will occur at CEDIA, Lagotek will show a turn-key system that includes Lagotek hardware and software plus third party system components. Zykronix Corporation, a Lagotek OEM, will offer the finished hardware design to qualified third parties by appointment.

"We are making the hardware platform available to a broad assortment of branded resellers and software tools available to the entire community of ISVs", noted Ron Risdon, president. "But most importantly, we are following a new set of standards that focus on the user interface for ease of use, plus guaranteed quality of service both in terms of installation and end user support after installation. These are the things home owners want in order to embrace home automation in large numbers."
