AMX NI-900 Controller Provides Dealers more Flexibility for Smaller-Scale System Installations (29/9/2005)

NI-900 Offers More IR Ports for Today's Popular Audio/Visual Devices

AMX Corporation, a worldwide leader in advanced control system technology, today responded to the industry's need for an integrated controller for smaller-scale installations that support multiple IR-enabled devices, such as DVD players, satellite receivers, plasma displays and projectors.

The NI-900 is built on the same proven platform as the popular NetLinx(tm) Integrated Controller Series, but offers a specialized solution to dealers designing systems for home theaters, classrooms, meeting/conference rooms and other single-room environments. AMX's control solutions are on display at CEDIA EXPO in booth 141 Sept. 9 - 11.

"Because IR-controlled devices are a more affordable option, the new NI-900 will reduce total system costs, broadening the potential customer base for our dealers," said Rashid Skaf, President and CEO, AMX. "The NI Series is AMX's most popular product line to date, and by adding another device configuration option targeted at the single and small-scale installation market, we're providing our dealers with even more flexibility to meet their customers' needs."

The NI-900 is also the first NetLinx device to be Duet-compatible straight out of the box. Duet is a dual-interpreter firmware platform from AMX, combining the proven reliability and power of NetLinx with the extensive capabilities of the Java 2 MicroEdition (J2ME) platform. Duet simplifies programming a system that includes the NI-900 and other third party devices by standardizing device and function definitions, default touch panel button assignments, and control and feedback methods. Dynamic Device Discovery makes integration even easier by automatically identifying and communicating with devices that are connected.

The NI-900 is engineered with three IR/Serial ports, two more than the NI-700, to access and control audio/visual equipment. It also includes one RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 control port, four digital I/O ports and one external IR receiver and front panel programming port. The NI-900 communicates over standards-based Ethernet-driven networks and an AXLink databus.

Availability

The NI-900 will be available from AMX within 90 days.
