CEA Standards Working Group Meeting to Develop Technical
Specifications for Aftermarket Friendly Gateway to Interface With
Most (27/6/2005)
Meeting Held at CEA's 2005 Summer Technology
& Standards Forum
The Consumer Electronics Association's (CEA)
Mobile Electronics Committee's MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport)
working group is convening to develop a technical specification
for an aftermarket friendly gateway interface into the MOST network
for automobiles. This gateway will be a common platform that consumers
can rely on to connect electronics products into their cars. This
meeting will be held on July 25, during CEA's 2005 Summer Technology
& Standards Forum in Denver, CO.
CEA works in conjunction with the MOST Cooperation
(MOSTCO) which developed the MOST network. The MOST network is the
fundamental backbone for digital multimedia systems in many automobiles.
CEA predicts the MOST fiber-optic network will connect multimedia
devices in 48 percent of cars worldwide by as early as 2008. CEA
is now leading an effort to develop a gateway into that network
ensuring aftermarket products will be able to interface with these
automobiles.
"This standard will alleviate challenges
to connectivity and support the rising sale of CE products while
providing consumers with more choices in determining their in-vehicle
products," said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. "This is a priority
to our volunteer leaders and members, and CEA will continue to support
and facilitate this initiative."
CEA is working closely with MOST Cooperation
on this effort. The standard being developed will define the connection,
for both portable products and installed products, to the MOST network.
It also will establish the type of information that needs to pass
through the network to allow the aftermarket equipment to work.
This will be one of the meetings that takes
place during CEA's 2005 Summer Technology & Standards Forum. The
Forum focuses on the development of emerging standards and encourages
participation from technology leaders in the consumer electronics
industry.
