DLP Technology Splashes New Colors Into Display World (13/6/2005)

New BrilliantColor(TM) Technology Brings Truer, More Vibrant Colors to Video and Image Viewing

Texas Instruments (NYSE:TXN) (TI) at InfoComm today announced its BrilliantColor(TM) technology, a color-processing enhancement that builds upon DLP(TM) technology's existent rich color offering by increasing color depth in DLP projectors with up to 6-color processing. The move beyond 3-color processing is a step that enables DLP customers to deliver an even more powerful image and video viewing experience.

BrilliantColor(TM) for DLP technology utilizes a new color-processing algorithm and system level enhancements to enable higher picture brightness while providing truer, more vibrant colors. Enabling a greater than 50% brightness increase in mid tone images, common in video and natural scenes, BrilliantColor(TM) will be available in both business and home entertainment projectors with SVGA, XGA, 720p, WXGA, and SXGA+ resolution.

Through greater flexibility in color processing, customers can expand beyond the red, green, and blue color palette and include yellow, magenta and cyan, which allow for more realistic and lifelike color reproduction.

Enabled by the new DDP3020 Imaging ASIC, BrilliantColor(TM) technology was designed with TI customers in mind, allowing increased differentiation for manufacturers to drive new levels of innovation. Additional system enhancements enabled by DDP3020 include embedded 2-D keystone correction, and picture-in-picture capabilities.

"We are focused on driving new innovations that deliver better products to our customers, and ultimately even better pictures to consumers," said Lars Yoder, Business Manager, TI DLP Front Projection Products. "DLP is the preferred technology in the high-end home theater space because of the rich colors and high picture quality it delivers. With BrilliantColor technology, we can bring more vibrant colors into the business and education spaces as well."

Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America is the first customer to announce products with BrilliantColor(TM) technology, with 4 new projectors announced here at InfoComm, one of which will be on display at its booth #1404. TI expects other customers to launch products with DLP BrilliantColor(TM) technology in 2005.
