British Federation of Audio Continues to Call for
Visible Fee Regarding WEEE Directive (25/5/2005)
Chairman Reiterates Policy at Annual General
Meeting
Steve Harris, Chairman of The British Federation
of Audio (BFA), once again stressed that the Federation was continuing
to call for a Visible Fee on invoices to clearly identify the cost
of WEEE. Speaking at the BFA Annual General Meeting, held recently
in central London, Harris pointed out that the BFA has always supported
the Visible Fee, however, as a Trade Association, the Federation
was barred from a collective discussion on the subject by the competition
legislation.
'We see the Visible Fee as being the most
sensible and cheapest way for these onerous costs to be paid for',
explained Harris, 'if audio-video manufacturers and distributors
don't pass them on most of them will end up making a loss. And if
every company just increases its prices these will be marked up
through the sales chain and the consumer will pay far more.'
