PRISMIQ Announces Innovative Technology for Monitoring
and Controlling Internet Traffic (24/5/2005)
Commander Wireless Router with IWACS Technology
Transparently Blocks Unwanted Traffic to All of the Computers in
the Home, with a Few Keystrokes on Just One Computer
PRISMIQ, Inc., the creator of award-winning
networking products, today announced the availability of a new product
designed to protect and monitor a home network at the most logical
location -- the point where Internet traffic enters. The Commander
Wireless Router with Internet Warning and Control Software (IWACS(TM))
technology monitors and controls all home Internet traffic and provides
comprehensive reporting and customization tools. In addition to
the Commander, PRISMIQ is also introducing today the WNC-11G Wireless
PC Card which lets consumers quickly add a computer to any 802.11g/b
WiFi network, and begin using the Commander -- eliminating the need
to run wires through walls and ceilings.
Internet Threats on the Rise
The dangers of the Internet have been easily
documented in the past few years with a study by The Kaiser Family
Foundation finding that among teens online, 70 percent have accidentally
come across pornography on the Web, and a 2002 study by the NOP
Research Group finding that of the four million children aged seven
to 17 who surf the net, 29% percent would freely give out their
home address and 14% would freely give out their e-mail address
if asked.
"Our goal is to develop an easy way for parents
to keep their children and computers safe from Internet-related
threats," said Ken Goldsholl, CEO of PRISMIQ. "The Commander offers
the simplest, most efficient and least expensive way to know what's
going on in your network -- enabling users to block unwanted traffic
or view various activities from IM sessions or even spyware covertly
transmitting data from their network."
Blocking Internet Threats at the Source
The Commander Wireless Router with IWACS
combines a DSL/Cable Modem router/802.11g access point/bridge with
software that monitors and controls Internet access -- logging all
chat sessions, web URLs, and POP3 email sent and received from a
network. As an aid to detecting the presence of spyware or other
unknown programs on computers, it can also detect data that is secretly
transmitted from home computers to the Internet, that aren't part
of email or web accesses. The Commander has an easy-to-use Windows
User Interface that lets the user implement restrictions on instant
messaging, web surfing, email, and data transfers to the Internet.
Unlike other routers that offer "parental
controls," the Commander does not require the user to sign up for
a service, nor does it forward all Internet activity to a third
party server. All of the monitoring and blocking is performed inside
the router -- and by the user. Additionally, it can be configured
as a wireless access point or a remote wireless-to-Ethernet bridge,
using an easy-to-use browser-based management interface or setup
wizard, and offers the following industry-standard features: a 4-port
10/100 Ethernet switch; support for Network Address Translation
(NAT); firewall functions; and, advanced wireless capabilities.
WNC-11G: Enabling Easy Expansion of Home
Wireless Networks
The WNC-11G, a 54 Mbps 802.11g wireless PC
Card adapter, supports the 11 Mbps 802.11b standard. It installs
easily and quickly by sliding into a notebook's 32-bit CardBus slot,
eliminating the need to run wires through walls and ceilings, and
allowing access where wires cannot go. Additionally, the 11G provides
superior performance and interoperability within a mixed-mode network
(802.11b and 802.11g). It is backward-compliant with all 802.11b
and 802.11b+ wireless equipment, allowing automatic interoperability
with the most widely used wireless networks in homes, offices, and
WiFi hotspots.
Pricing and Availability
The Commander and the WNC-11G are available
now. For a limited time, PRISMIQ will offer these two new products
as a bundled package for $99.95. Priced separately, they are $79.95
and $39.95, respectively. Special offers for shipping and trade-ins
are also currently available.
