CEDIA Introduces Dedicated New Technical Foundation Course (3/5/2005)

CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association) has announced a new Technical Foundation Course in response to increasing demand for basic skills education from members. The course is designed as an introduction for fresh blood joining the custom installation industry or as a forerunner for those taking the CEDIA Designer and Installer training and exams as part of the CEDIA Certification program at this year's CEDIA Expo.

The Technical Foundation Course is split into two full day sessions of Theory and Practice. The first day of theoretical training actually takes place ahead of CEDIA Expo on 24th May 2005 at the Hitchin Priory Hotel, Hitchin in Hertfordshire. Day two of this course puts the theory into practice with a hands-on, full day workshop on 28th June 2005 at the CEDIA Expo, enabling delegates to grow in knowledge, confidence and skill.

"A key challenge for many custom design and installation businesses is how best to bring new staff up to speed with the basics of home electronics technology" says CEDIA's Education Chair, Steve Martin. "CEDIA recognises its responsibility in this area, and we've developed this new Technical Foundation course so that employees can easily get to grips with the key theory and practice elements of custom installation. That way they can start making a contribution as quickly as possible to their employer's business. This course will also serve as an excellent "skills refresher" for those people sitting the CEDIA Designer and Installer training and exams at this year's CEDIA Expo".

Topics covered on the Theoretical Course will include basic electrical theory, drawings, scales and documentation, basic building construction and the projects team, connections and cables, speakers and displays, testing and fault finding and health and safety. The Practical Workshop will develop delegate skills in system fault finding, soldering, drilling and installing cable, cutting into plasterboard and brick and crimp connectors. The experienced CEDIA presenters leading this course will be David Hyman, Peter Aylett, David Graham and David Nowak.
