Goldring GR2 Turntable - Playing sonic leapfrog! (20/3/2005)

Goldring are proud to announce the launch of the new GR2 turntable.

This new model builds on the success of the highly acclaimed GR1 turntable, launched last year. Like the GR1, the GR2 is an elegant, manually operated, two speed, belt drive turntable with a clear hinged cover, but there the similarity ends, because the new GR2 features major design advantages over the GR1.

Technical Director, Steve Privett explains the differences "Firstly, the GR2 comes ready fitted with the £100 Goldring 1012GX cartridge. This is an excellent moving magnet design that boasts a Gyger 2 fine-line stylus and delivers outstanding sonic performance."

"Secondly, this cartridge is fitted to an up-rated version of the Goldring tonearm that benefits from closer tolerance arm bearings and a more rigid chassis mounting assembly."

Pausing only to catch his breath, Privett continued "We've also increased the size of the platter main bearing by 50% to 18mm, which reduces rumble, and fitted an 8mm steel "mass ring" around the circumference of the platter, which substantially improves the flywheel effect and reduces wow and flutter."

"Lastly, the overall appearance is much better, because we have dramatically improved the style and finish of the turntable plinth."

"The cumulative result of all these improvements is a turntable that we confidently believe "sonically leapfrogs" its competitors and delivers the very best performance currently available at its price point."

The Goldring GR2 has a Suggested Retail Price of £265 inc. vat. and is available now from Goldring dealers nationwide.
