Key Customers Highlight Intellon-Enabled 85Mbps HomePlug 1.0 Compatible Products at CeBit 2005; New PLC Products from Leading OEMs Drive Next-Generation Home Entertainment Applications (18/3/2005)

Intellon, the world leader in powerline communications and HomePlug-compatible technology, announced today that its next generation HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo solution, providing features that increase transmission rates up to 85 Mbps, will be highlighted by devolo AG, Asoka, Aztech and others, at CeBIT 2005. While the 14 Mbps HomePlug 1.0 standard has been primarily used to extend Internet access to every power-outlet in the home, these new products featuring Intellon's INT5500CS chipset offer performance that significantly exceeds the options provided by other home networking technologies.

Intellon's highly anticipated INT5500CS HomePlug 1.0 compatible device has been engineered to address multiple new applications requiring the throughput demanded by multi-media content distribution applications, which are rapidly emerging in the home.

Among the many applications to be supported by this latest advance in powerline communications are higher speed connections between broadband gateways, digital media adapters and PCs, home security monitoring, and distribution of whole-house audio, VoIP traffic and standard definition video.

The INT5500 is ideally suited to provide the backbone solution for IPTV and triple play applications - data, voice and video. Taking HomePlug-based networking solutions to the next level, Intellon's partners are making the digital home a reality, providing the four key attributes to this growing market: simplicity, security, reliability and affordability.

At CeBIT, devolo AG will demonstrate a new adapter-based product, the MicroLink dLAN(R) Highspeed Ethernet, using the INT5500CS, specifically targeting the IPTV marketplace in Europe. The device will facilitate the distribution and provisioning of standard definition content between an in-home broadband gateway, an IP Set-Top Box and a display, eliminating the need to install new cabling, as well as the need to require careful device placement within the home to accommodate a weak wireless signal.

Devolo will also be showing its new MicroLink dLAN(R) duo, based on the proven HomePlug 1.0 certification. It combines USB and Ethernet interfaces into one product. Additionally, devolo offers a dLAN audio adapter, which provides an effortless means to distribute audio content within the home, from the PC to any type of audio or speaker system having an analog or digital audio input.

"We have selected Intellon's new INT5500CS for use in our next generation devices, as we see high demand for additional performance and a more robust feature set in powerline applications.", said Heiko Harbers, CEO of devolo AG. "Furthermore, we have absolute confidence in Intellon's ability to continue to deliver the best products in the market today. They are clearly the innovative leader in the fast-growing powerline market. Devolo is proud to be working with such a strong and supportive partner."

Also at CeBIT, Asoka will bring to market, a HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo network solution for the digital home called the PlugLink(TM) Turbo Ethernet Wall Module. Based on the INT5500CS, it will be capable of supporting speeds up to 85 Mbps for multiple video networking applications.

"Asoka is excited to showcase the latest HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo network solution," said Elsa Chan, Director of Business Development of Asoka. "For some time now, the market has demanded a higher speed powerline network solution to support applications such as IPTV and triple play. We have been working rigorously to offer such a solution and the introduction of Intellon's HomePlug 1.0 with Turbo provides the necessary bandwidth for powerline to be used as the ultimate backbone network solution."

Aztech is introducing its new ADSL2/2+ gateway, the DSL605EH, also utilizing Intellon's 85Mbps chipset. This product, which will embed the INT5500CS device, will be one of the first of its kind in the marketplace. By using the new DSL605EH gateway, service providers can now confidently and cost-effectively provide subscribers with the higher bandwidth necessary to enjoy next-generation home entertainment applications such as IPTV, standard definition video streaming, in-home VoIP delivery and whole-house audio.

Several other partners are currently developing HomePlug Ethernet Adapters and embedded solutions such as ADSL2+ Gateways and IP Set Top Boxes based on Intellon's Turbo solution, including Abocom, Aceex, Alpha Networks, Amigo, Billion, Gigafast, Lite-On, Sercomm, ST&T, and Xavi to name a few. This will provide the market with cost-effective, highly reliable end-to-end solutions for faster Internet access and whole-house audio and video distribution applications.
