Monitor Audio Launches Silver 'RS' Range (1/3/2005)

New drivers and new cabinet design mark a further leap in quality for Monitor Audio's 'Silver' loudspeakers

Created to meet the needs of the most demanding music lovers and home cinema enthusiasts, Monitor Audio's new Silver RS speakers take the performance of its awardwinning Silver 'S' range to the next level with stunning new design, construction and driver engineering. For RS, Monitor Audio's long-established reputation for high-end metal driver technology and cabinet design has been enhanced with further innovation to deliver elevated standards of sonic excellence and a bold new aesthetic appeal.

Born to perform

Monitor Audio's C-CAM(R) (Ceramic Coated Aluminium Magnesium alloy) driver technology, unveiled on the Silver S series, has been further developed to give an even more natural, transparent and accurate sound quality. The RS tweeter is based on Monitor Audio's famous 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome used in its Gold Reference series speakers and offers extended frequency response to 25kHz. The bass and mid drivers' non-magnetic cast polymer chassis damps residual energy and houses connections and the magnet structure as a single unit, which has no screws or loose parts, improving consistency and reliability.

Bold new design

RS looks bolder and more architectural than Silver S but remains beautifully clean and elegant, while the strategically strengthened and damped cabinets fully exploit the potential of the new high-performance drive units to achieve a natural, un-boxy, yet captivating sound.

Silver RS1

Expect clarity, detail, speed and punch from the stand-mounting RS1, a compact, two-way reflex-ported system that incorporates a single 6-inch (150mm) C-CAM bass/mid-range driver and a 1-inch (25mm) Gold Dome C-CAM tweeter. With high efficiency (90dB) and power handling (80W), the RS-1 will release all the dynamic impact of music and movie sound with little cost to living space.

Silver RS6

Incorporating a 6-inch (150mm) C-CAM bass driver, a 6-inch C-CAM bass/mid driver, and a 1-inch (25mm) Gold Dome C-CAM tweeter, the RS6 is a svelte floor-stander, equally at home in stereo and multi-channel applications. Its dynamic expression, natural voicing, and taut bass power will deliver outstanding levels of refinement and resolution.

Silver RS8

Equipped with two 6-inch (150mm) C-CAM bass drivers, a 6-inch C-CAM mid driver, and a 1-inch (25mm) Gold Dome C-CAM tweeter, the floor-standing RS-8 is the latest incarnation of a true giant-killer. It marries a genuine wide-bandwidth performance with knockout dynamics and killer bass from a slim and elegant enclosure.

Silver RS-LCR

The versatile RS-LCR will perform beautifully as a centre or surround channel loudspeaker in a Silver RS multichannel system or in its own right as a high quality hi-fi monitor, by virtue of its two 6-inch (150mm) C-CAM bass/mid-range drivers and 1-inch (25mm) Gold Dome C-CAM tweeter. For every application, matched driver technology and superior acoustic design will reproduce the richness and complexity of the human voice and the detailed muscularity of the most dynamic recordings.

Silver RS-FX

No loudspeaker range as well specified and engineered as the Silver RS is complete without a dedicated surround loudspeaker. The RS-FX fulfils this role perfectly by sharing driver technology with its range counterparts to ensure the seamless integration of surround sound channels. A single 6-inch C-CAM bass/ mid driver is complemented by dual 25mm Gold Dome C-CAM tweeters, each positioned within an angled baffle to recreate convincing surround effects.

Silver RSW-12

The RSW-12 active subwoofer provides another stunning dimension to the Silver RS sound. Its 12-inch (300mm) C-CAM front-firing driver, powered by a potent 500W (RMS) digital amplifier, will extend the reach of all the Silver RS speakers to add the deepest drama to movies and music. The RSW-12's lowest frequencies are controlled so expertly that even subtle effects are better defined, enhancing the RS experience with bass you can feel as well as hear.

*What is C-CAM?

Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium is an innovative material originally developed by the aerospace industry for use as blades in jet engines. It exhibits ideal qualities for use as a tweeter dome, avoiding the 'break-up' or bending modes of more conventional materials. The dome remains rigid and works more like a pure piston comfortably up to 25KHz. Increased efficiency and clarity and reduced distortion result.
