Denon DVD-A1XV Reference Class THX-ULTRA Universal
Disc Player (1/3/2005)
- The first player of the high-definition
era HDTV pictures from Standard DVD - and a stunning universal music
player
World's first player with Realta HQV Hi-Def
processing plus Award-Winning DVDO Video Scaling and more
Denon has clearly established themselves
as one of the leading forces in DVD technol-ogy. No other company
is pushing the envelope as far, in performance, features, design
or execution. The flagship DVD-A1XV is a completely new player from
the ground up and stands at the cutting-edge. The HDTV-grade results
from standard DVD, give HD display owners their first, best source
component and the sound quality matches that of specialist audio
players.
The A1XV combines Denon's decades of audio
video experience, with $60,000 worth of 'HQV by Teranex', the latest
DVDO scaling, advanced technological architecture and battleship
audiophile construction, to deliver astonishing results. In addition
to being an awesome vision product, this is also a world class high-end
music player for CD, SACD and DVD-A.
This is one of the most serious and expensive
DVD players on the planet, but a bargain in the context of the £3000
to £15,000 components it will be used with. Many consumers already
have HD ready Plasmas, LCDs or Projectors and for these the A1XV
has to be the source of choice.

DENON Pixel Image Correction (DPIC) for picture
clarity 'upgraded and unique Denon technology'
The DVD-A1XV features Denon Pixel Image Correction
(DPIC), exclusive 10-bit correction circuitry that samples a total
of nine pixels to detect the impact of a 'target' pixel, then process
in vertical, horizontal and diagonal parameters and separates algorithms
for brightness and colour, resulting in an unprecedented clear and
realistic image.
Hollywood Quality Video (HQV) via the Realta
chip from Silicon Optix 'world first - Denon co-implementation'
The jaw-dropping images previously available
only to Hollywood and broadcasters (and anyone else with $60,000
to spend), is now available to real people, with the Denon DVD-A1XV
featuring the Realta single-chip video processor, the result of
three years of collaboration between Silicon Optix, Teranex and
Denon.
HQV is the result of over $200 million dollars
worth of video research from Lockheed missile guidance, Hollywood
digital editing suites and USA HDTV. HQV is currently exclusive
to Denon. This technology is used to generate broadcast HD pics
from standard material and to clean and remaster Hollywood movies
like the Star Wars Trilogy.
High-performance DVDO video scaler 'world
first - Denon co-development'
The DVD-A1XV is also the world's first DVD
player to feature the critically acclaimed 10-bit Precision Video
Scaling(TM) technology from DVDO by Anchor Bay Technologies, a critical
video processing step. The circuitry has won industry awards and
been hailed for its state-of-the-art digital video upconversion,
cross-conversion, and downconversion. For high-definition displays,
DVDO offers Denon customers world-class, pristine, and artifact-free
upconversion to HD resolution video, perfectly matching the native
resolution of HD displays.
New Denon Dual Discrete Video Circuit (DDVC)
The use of dedicated circuits, one independent
block for composite and S-video signals, one block for component
signals, and a dual DAC configuration with built-in video encoder,
has made it possible to reproduce video detail with greater precision.
The circuits, boards, and power supplies for video, audio, and digital
are completely isolated from each other. This architecture eliminates
interference and prevents noise from affecting the video or audio
signals.
High-speed, high-precision 14-bit 216-MHz
video DAC Oversampling of 8x for Progressive and 16x for Interlaced
signals results in sharp, detailed pictures. Composite, S-video
and component signals each have their own dedicated video DAC. Noise
Shaped Video (NSV) technology is used to improve the S/N of video
signals and further boost their linearity.
Cutting-Edge Audio Capabilities
The DVD-A1XV's stellar video performance
is matched by its audiophile-quality audio section, featuring full
digital bass management for DVD-Video, DVD-Audio and SACD provided
by dual Hammerhead SHARC processors, plus built-in Dolby Digital
and dts surround sound decoding. Independent PCM and DSD decoders
are included with cutting edge 24-bit/192kHz audio D/A converters
and the latest version of Denon's exclusive Advanced AL24 Processing
circuit, which now operates in 24-bit/192kHz on all channels, using
sophisticated interpolation algorithms and digital filtering to
improve low-level resolution and dynamic range.
Ultimate Picture Calibration - Five custom
presets for different sources and displays
A total of 12 picture quality adjustments
are possible, including contrast, sharpness, white level, chroma
level, noise reduction settings, and gamma. Calibration to match
the display can make a huge improvement to the picture.
Simultaneous output through all video interfaces
- Custom install ready
Simultaneous video output is available via
(DVI, HDMI, component, prog scan, S-video and composite). Both digital
video interfaces support HDCP. HDMI audio output capacity is Version
1.1 compliant, for multi-channel DVD-Audio. In addition, an RS-232
port and remote in/out ports provide two-way integrated system control,
for use with third-party controllers such as Crestron and AMX, and
in multi-room audio/video applications.
Massive high-end audiophile construction
Weighing over 18kg, the A1XV features a multi-layer
case, alloy fascia and side-panels, internal copper construction,
sintered aluminium transport and organic anti-vibration coatings.
The player is laid out with a three box, six block internal layout
to isolate analogue, digital and video circuits and has multiple
independent power supplies.
