Steljes sign exclusive distribution deal with Scion
Technologies for their multimedia management and distribution system
(3/2/2005)
Steljes Trade, the UK's leading specialist,
trade only distributor of world class collaborative and display
products, announce an exclusive agreement with Scion Technologies
until March 2006. The agreement enables Steljes Trade to provide
a real alternative: a competitively priced, affordable option for
superior home multimedia distribution.
Jonathan Pengilley, commercial director Steljes
Trade, has been responsible for sourcing Steljes' affordable home
entertainment range including the products from Scion Technology.
Jonathan explains Steljes' decision, "We think that there are real
opportunities for our resellers with this product range."
The need for video distribution has come
about through a couple of different factors. Cat 5 cabling is becoming
the standardised cabling of choice in many different types of new
builds due to its flexibility. At a basic level the actual cost
of the cabling is significantly less but further to this it enables
any CAT5 socket to act as a telephony, PC or TV point. CAT 5 does
not restrict the location of equipment by the sockets and is also
flexible in terms of its upgradeability.
Scion extends the benefits of Cat 5 cabling
even further. Previous systems have been too expensive, very bulky
and needed expertise in installation. Scion distributes all signals
over a single CAT5 cable, is easy to install and use, upgradeable,
affordable and there is also no signal degradation up to 600 ft.
This is important in the home but equally, if not more important,
for leisure and retail sectors where cabling may need to cover even
greater areas.
The ID-6000 model incorporates 13 inputs
and 6 outputs. The ID-1000 can be daisy-chained to create a structure
from 16x 16 up to 240 outputs.
Jonathan concludes, "there are so many application
opportunities for this product it is very exciting. The relatively
recent government investment in ICT for education for example means
that many schools have cat 5 cabling installed in new buildings
and when you take into account that schools have already invested
in display systems in the form of interactive whiteboards and projectors,
everything is in place for a multi media distribution system. Scion
enables schools to affordably have the potential to access education
television channels, video and DVD across a whole campus.
"House builders are looking for a way of
differentiating themselves from their competition. Economic indicators
in the residential market have been hardening and prices are stagnating.
Therefore house builders want to add value to their offering in
order to make their properties more attractive rather than having
to resort to dropping the price.
In the retail market, further to success
with Tesco, Scion has just won a deal with Sainsbury to fit out
all their supermarkets. They have also just received an order for
Asda for another 20 stores. The beauty of this system is that it
is scalable to meet the demands of the retailer no matter their
size. With the cost for the system about one fifth of the nearest
competitor this is a very exciting prospect.
In bars and leisure centres where the idea
of multi-screens is very much the norm as well as in the hotel market,
Scion offers a very affordable TV distribution system.
The ID-6000 has an SRP of £725. For further
