Epson Demonstrates Why Popularity of Its 3LCD-Based Home Entertainment Products Will Continue to Grow (2/2/2005)

Epson Home Entertainment Group Demonstrates Future Epson Display Technologies and Side-by-Side Comparisons of Epson 3LCD-based Livingstation to Some of Today's Popular Single-Chip DLP Projection TVs

Epson, the worldwide leader of 3LCD microdisplay devices, is demonstrating why its home entertainment products continue to grow in popularity, and is giving a sneak-peak to future Epson display technologies at the International Consumer Electronics Show 2005. The Epson Home Entertainment booth is located in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, booth #25724.

In its booth, the Epson's Home Entertainment Group is conducting side-by-side comparisons of one of its latest 3LCD projection televisions to similarly priced, single-chip DLP projection TVs. The shootout is designed to not only show CES attendees how Epson 3LCD products compare, but also illustrate the strengths of its displays such as color accuracy, outstanding grayscale, shadow detail and full-time color without the "rainbow effect," which can be visible from images displayed on single chip DLP-based products.

"The home entertainment industry is getting a lot more complicated these days when you think about how many new forms of technology are being introduced to consumers' households," said Jodi Maugham, product manager, Home Entertainment Division, Epson. "HDTV alone has become one of the most sought-after technologies we've seen in years, but many consumers are reporting that it's overwhelming trying to figure out which type of TV they need to buy because they don't really understand the differences. So demonstrations like this are just one of the many ways we're teaching them about the advantages of Epson's 3LCD products, and showing the differences when products are compared side by side."

Additionally, the Epson Home Entertainment booth is exhibiting the future of 3LCD technology with a second-generation, native-1080P rear projection display, an industry first. Also on display is a showcase to Epson's advanced projection engineering, as well as a "convergence" room that offers a glimpse of the future of home entertainment.

Epson's latest line of home entertainment products are also on display and include three front projectors - the PowerLite(R) Home 10+, PowerLite Cinema 200+ and PowerLite Cinema 500 - and two widescreen HDTV 3LCD projection televisions with a built-in digital photo center - the Livingstation(TM) LS47P2 and LS57P2. Capitalizing on Epson's extensive expertise in 3LCD technology, these home theater products offer unparalleled picture quality for both still and moving images, outstanding performance and unique features at highly competitive prices.

-- EPSON Livingstation 47-inch and 57-inch televisions: Recently announced second-generation widescreen HDTV LCD projection televisions - built off the original, unique Epson Livingstations introduced at CES last year - that combine Epson's own 3LCD technology with a built-in digital photo center that allows users to view, print and store photos without a PC. Available in two screen sizes, the Livingstations boast all the original features that made these televisions one of CES 2004's most highly discussed products, but raises the bar with improved video quality. The Livingstations also offer an extensive array of connectivity options and are one of the thinnest LCD projection televisions available, measuring only 14.8 inches deep on the 47-inch model.

-- EPSON PowerLite Home 10+: This portable, 3LCD projector delivers a native 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio and brilliant big-screen performance at an extraordinary value priced at $1,299 - including a portable, stand-up screen. With the same attractive features as the original PowerLite Home 10, the projector has increased brightness and contrast ratio for a more brilliant picture and sharper, more colorful images in all viewing environments. Users can project an 80-inch image from only 6.6 feet away or up to 300 inches from 24.9 feet. No installation is required, and the Home 10+ is capable of projecting a wide variety of video signals including HDTV.

-- EPSON Cinema 200+ projector: Geared to home entertainment enthusiasts, the PowerLite Cinema 200+ is built on Epson's latest generation of high definition 3LCD digital image technology and delivers advanced video quality at an outstanding value. The mid-level enhanced HDTV-ready projector is the ideal balance between high performance and value with native 720p resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio and a brightness of 1,500 ANSI lumens producing superior image quality and color intensity.

-- EPSON Cinema 500 projector: For advanced home entertainment enthusiasts, the PowerLite Cinema 500 is Epson's top-of-the-line home entertainment projector offering unparalleled image quality at a highly competitive price. This flagship product features native 720p and 1200:1 contrast ratio, in addition to a Faroudja video chip to eliminate jagged edges in video.
