New Radia Speaker Technology from the MAX Eliminates Ceiling and Floor Bounce (2/2/2005)

A/V speakers, which truly solve the age-old problem of high frequency ceiling and floor bounce to provide seamless listening quality, are now available for the first time in the UK from The MAX. The Radia Series of in-wall ribbon loudspeakers is the first and only complete full-range which can eliminate this problem from dedicated stereo environments.

Suitable for both commercial and home theatre applications, each Radia monopole speaker is a self-contained unit, designed to fit into a rectangular cutout in standard stud partitioning for easy installation. This flush-fitting in-wall design means that the speakers are "virtually invisible", the benefits of which include improved aesthetics, better space utilisation and a decreased risk of damage.

But the real beauty of this new speaker system is its unsurpassable sound quality. Wideband Planar Technology has been combined with the highest calibre conventional cone drivers to create the only hybrid in-wall system currently available. The result is an impressive cylindrical soundfield that outperforms more traditional alternatives. The exotic planer driver gives wide horizontal (left-right) dispersion, which expands the conventional speaker system's limited "sweet spot" and allows improved stereo imaging throughout the listening venue. This line-sources system also minimises the spatial and timbral distortions commonly experienced with point source alternatives so reducing high frequency bounce and ensuring limited interaction within the room and its ceiling fixtures, roof and floors.

Other benefits include:

· Sound pressure (volume) drops off at half the rate of conventional speakers as a function of distance

· A large radiating area which moves a very small distance even at high volumes, along with extensive testing and crossover designs, resulting in very low levels of intermodulation distortion

· A single speaker component (planar) capable of reproducing sound over the entire human vocal range requiring no crossover over that critical range

Available in heights ranging from 1ft to more than 6ft, Radia Series speakers are available in six different designs: three multi-channel and three primary options to enhance and support both two-channel and home theatre applications. The speakers have been designed as monopoles with the sound radiated from the front. The sound from the rear is absorbed and dissipated. The design incorporates a polyester radiating film as standard while the frame and chassis are manufactured from carbon steel, extruded aluminium and moulded plastic.
