The MAX Launches Invisible Sound System (2/2/2005)

Science fiction becomes science fact with The MAX's latest product launch. Now, thanks to the all-new SolidDrive driver system, walls, tables, ceilings and even windows can be turned into high quality speaker systems.

It might sound like a scene from Blade Runner, but The MAX's new SolidDrive technology offers the most up-to-date solution for any audio or home cinema installation. Forget about traditional speaker systems and instead consider this very latest system which will provide you with omni-directional and yet truly invisible sound.

Based on technology developed by the US Navy to power sonar equipment, SolidDrive converts an audio signal into a powerful vibration that can be transferred into a solid material, evenly delivering sound from the entire surface. This vibration is achieved via the expansion and contraction of the system within its unit up to 20,000 times a second. These vibrations transfer to a solid surface such as a wall or window, which then in turn distribute the sound into the surrounding area.

SolidDrive units are easy to install and are particularly suitable for stud partition walls where they can be located in the space between the dry lining panels.

And the result is spectacular. Imagine a home theatre installation with sound from every angle, evenly dispersed around the room but with no visible speakers. Channel separation is not lost, and yet the sound is omni-directional at nearly all frequencies Ð the listener is truly immersed in sound.

Each SolidDrive driver produces speaker-quality sound from as little as 5-15 Watts, making them safe to install in walls, ceilings, windows or even on tables. SolidDrive sets are supplied with all installation materials, although specifiers should indicate where they are to used as this will differ according to the intended installation. A typical set will include a SolidDrive X unit for frequencies 150Hz to 3,000 Hz and a SolidDrive D unit for frequencies 3,000Hz to 18,000Hz as well as all mounting materials. Additional subwoofers in either 7" or 8" varieties are also available.
