Gefen Releases HMDI Switchers for High Definition Home Theaters (2/2/2005)

At IS Europe, Gefen demonstrates the functionality of its new HDMI Switchers, which integrate multiple high definition video sources with one or two digital displays. Gefen's HDMI Switchers are designed for home theaters and audio/video systems that utilize multiple high definition video sources combined with one or more HDMI displays. They eliminate the need to disconnect and reconnect various sources to a display equipped with one input. All sources are connected and accessible at all times, with access controlled remotely or manually.

Gefen's switchers are currently available in two models: a 2x2 and a 6x2, which differ only in source input capabilities. The 2x2 comes with two source inputs and two outputs while the 6x2 comes with six source inputs and two outputs. The two identical HDMI outputs on each switcher offer the option of sending the audio/video data to the display and a receiver or to two displays at the same time. Both Switchers are HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) complaint, delivering content at its highest resolutions.

Though equipped with HDMI, both switchers can support equipment with DVI (digital visual interface) connectors as well. Gefen supplies a variety of HDMI and DVI Adapters for connecting incompatible interfaces on system equipment.

Designed to streamline high definition video systems by offering an easy way to access multiple sources, the 2x2 HDMI Switcher and the 6x2 HDMI Switcher are expected to begin shipping in February 2005.
