Toshiba Announces Expansion of Award Winning DLP
Projection Television Line Up for 2005, with 'TALEN X' (24/1/2005)
Expanded line will offer consumers new screen
sizes and the first "TALEN X" 1080p DLP models for a superior home
theater experience
Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C.,
(Toshiba) today announced that it will showcase its full line up
of ten DLP(TM) Projection TVs at CES 2005. Featuring models in both
the Cinema Series(R) and TheaterWide(R) lines, Toshiba continues
to offer consumers one of the broadest arrays of DLP TVs available
today.
Looking forward, Toshiba also announced that
it will expand its portfolio of DLP TVs in 2005 to include new larger
screen sizes, and the new "TALEN X" 1080p Engine. With TALEN X,
Toshiba utilizes superior design and technology to further enhance
the home theater experience.
In recognition of its investment in technology
and design, Toshiba has been given four prestigious 2005 CES Innovations
Awards including one for its 62HMX94 DLP set. In particular this
award recognizes Toshiba's investment in advancing the consumer's
viewing experience through the development of TALEN(TM) - Toshiba's
proprietary Digital Light Engine and PixelPure(TM), the innovative
Digital Video Processing Suite designed to provide consistently
high picture quality.
"The response to our 2004 DLP PTV line-up
has been overwhelming," said Scott Ramirez, Toshiba America Consumer
Products VP, Marketing. "We are proud that the industry has recognized
the quality of Toshiba's TALEN and PixelPure technologies with the
2005 Innovations Award. But, two years ago Toshiba started 1080p
Micro-Display PTV in the industry. Now, we're back with 1080p. With
our new TALEN X 1080p engine, we take micro-display picture quality
to the next level. Micro-Display PTV is a Toshiba core competency,
and we are committed to continuing to utilize cutting edge technology
to provide the best possible home theater experience."
Toshiba's Award Winning Technology
The technology at the center of these sets
is a proprietary Digital Light Engine named TALEN (Toshiba Advanced
Light Engine) designed and manufactured by Toshiba. This system
utilizes Texas Instruments' step-up HD2+ chip to provide high resolution
with improved brightness and contrast. At less than 16" deep, these
sets have a flat panel-like appearance and occupy considerably less
space than traditional rear projection sets.
Another development from Toshiba is the incorporation
of the PixelPure(TM) Digital Video Processing Suite. Utilizing Toshiba's
advanced circuitry, PixelPure delivers the consistent quality picture
expected from Toshiba TVs. Seven Key PixelPure components include:
* 6.2 Million Pixel Over Sampling - for Higher
Perceived Resolution with Decreased Image Distortion * Real Speed
Progressive Scanning - uses Additional Sampling Points to Create
Smoother Diagonal Lines * Dynamic Contrast Enhancer - for Higher
Perceived Contrast and Increased Color Saturation and Purity * Super
Real Transient and Small Signal Sharpness - for Sharp Transitions
from Dark to Bright * Color Transient Improver - for Sharp Transitions
on Color Changes Without Bleeding * Color Detail Enhancer - to Maintain
Fine Image Detail in Color Saturated Areas
The DLP PTV line up also employs the TheaterFine(TM)
DFP Screen technology with a Digital Fine Pitch and Anti-Glare Coating
that results in increased detail and noticeably deeper blacks. There
is even the Radiance(TM) DC Lamp technology with high brightness
and lower power modes (for extended life), and a Quick Restart feature
that allows the sets to restart quickly after power down.
Additionally, all Integrated HDTV models
feature the Toshiba Seine(TM) Processor. Seine provides the processing
power necessary to create the Toshiba quality picture and feature
set that make Toshiba a leader in the projection television market.
Even More Features
All of the DLP sets with integrated HDTV
tuners are loaded with features for a transition into HDTV. Toshiba's
sets come equipped with ATSC and QAM tuners, which enable the sets
to receive both digital terrestrial and digital cable broadcasts.
All integrated sets also feature two IEEE1394 ports with industry
standard DTVLink capability, necessary for digital networking and
recording.
To further increase user functionality, Toshiba
integrated HDTVs also include TV Guide On Screen(R), an Interactive
Program Guide, for simple, user- friendly channel navigation. This
guide is key for new TVs with Plug & Play Digital Cable capability,
as the new digital cable system does not otherwise provide a guide.
All integrated sets offer a CableCARD(TM) (formerly POD) slot for
digital cable compatibility. These models feature the TheaterNet(TM)
1394/IR control system for external device control, and an OmniViewer(TM)
Memory Card Slot (which accepts five types of memory cards) with
JPEG viewer for viewing of digital photos.
The full line of Toshiba DLP TVs feature
many of the key technologies that the company has been known for,
including: CableClear(TM) DNR+, SRS(R) WOW(TM), HD Window(TM) POP,
and now an HDMI(TM) digital input.
