McIntosh Laboratory Introduces The XLS Series of Loudspeakers (31/12/2004)

McIntosh Laboratory, a world leader in home entertainment systems for over 55 years, introduces the XLS Series of Loudspeakers.

McIntosh Loudspeaker Engineers designed the new XLS Series of Loudspeakers for maximum flexibility and system scalability. The concept and ÔVoiceÕ begins with a second generation, five Tweeter Bessel Array for uncompressed, high power reproduction of high frequencies with both delicacy and natural detail. The Bessel Tweeter Array is combined with a precision 6.5" woofer/midrange driver and is connected to a precision crossover network, all mounted in a compact extruded aluminum enclosure. All XLS Loudspeakers contain these components so they all speak with a common ÔVoiceÕ. The larger XLS Loudspeakers add large woofers with increased cabinet volume for additional bass extension and power handling capability. Completing the XLS Series is the XLS112 a 400 watt internally amplified subwoofer.

The aluminum enclosure is strong, light and anti-resonant which allows the XLS Loudspeaker to be thinner in size and have the proper internal volume necessary for the woofer midrange speaker. The XLS Series is designed to be positioned on the floor, a shelf or mounted on-wall or in-wall with the addition of an in-wall kit. An "imaging jumper" is located on the back panel of each XLS Loudspeaker allowing for the selection of left, center or right speaker placement for proper imaging wherever the speakers are located. Trim strip finishes are available in champagne, natural cherry, red cherry and black ash.

The XLS Series Loudspeakers will begin shipping in January 2005 at a manufacturers suggested retail price of; XLS320 $2,000 each, XLS340 $3,500 each, XCS350 $3,000 each, XLS360 $4,500 each and the XLS112 $3,500 each. The XLS Series Loudspeakers will be officially introduced at CES 2005 and can be seen along with McIntoshÕs other outstanding electronics and loudspeakers at the McIntosh Booth at Alexis Park in the Executive Board Room and Board Rooms A, B, C, and D.
