Silicon Optix Introduces The Optiscale Video/Graphics Sxaler/Switcher (10/12/2004)

Silicon Optix Inc., a fabless semiconductor company focused on the convergence of silicon and optics, announced the introduction of the OptiScale(tm) video/graphics scaler/switcher. Ideal for the professional projector installer and the home theater enthusiast, OptiScale features professional quality high definition de-interlacing and the highest quality image scaling currently available.

With OptiScale, a wide variety of input signals can be selected, switched and scaled to a multitude of popular output resolutions. Input switching between channels is accomplished in about 1 second, and is completely artifact free. State of the art de-interlacing is applied to all SDTV interlaced input signals and 1080i HDTV interlaced signals.

Input signals include RGB analog, RGB DVI, 2 channels of SDTV composite, 1 channel of SDTV S-Video, 1 channel of SDTV component, and 1 channel of HDTV component. Output resolutions in the range of VGA (640 x 480) to SXGA+ (1400 x 1050) are all supported. Popular 16:9 output formats such as WXGA (1366 x 768), WVGA (852 x 480) and 720P (1280 x 720) are also provided. Using the 65 tap image filter technology of the embedded Silicon Optix sxW1 Image Processing IC, the highest possible image scaling quality for all scaling ratios is attained by OptiScale. In addition to its powerful switching, scaling and de-interlacing capabilities, the OptiScale product also provides a host of ergonomic features for the Home Theater enthusiast:

* A range of aspect ratio treatments * Extensive panning and zooming * Controlled Front Panel Illumination * Quiet operation * Multi-lingual OSD * RS-232, 422 and 485 controllability

"Actually, the scaling technology embodied in OptiScale has been available to the public in the form of our Image AnyPlace image geometry correcting scaler for almost a year. As a result, we've had many requests for an economically priced, high quality Scaler/Switcher that can perform scaling as well as the AnyPlace product. Here it is." said Steve Wood, VP and GM of Silicon Optix's system business.

Pricing and Availability

The OptiScale video/graphics scaler/switcher is now available at an MSRP of $1,995.
