Introducing Mission's New Compact Home-Theatre System:
Bringing Style To Audio (8/12/2004)
Mission, the Great British loudspeaker manufacturer
renowned worldwide for its leading edge design and craftsmanship
of quality audio products, launches M-Cube, a revolutionary 5.1
home theatre package.
Mission engineers have teamed up with internationally
renowned product designers, Seymourpowell, to revolutionise the
way consumers integrate home theatre into their living environment.
M-Cube consists of five neat, curvaceous,
cuboid satellites coupled with a compact subwoofer that matches
their fashionable form. Each satellite features pioneering technology
combined with the use of advanced materials with the added feature
of interchangeable wraps, enabling them to be tailored to personal
taste and home furnishings. Style and form aren't the only talents
M-Cube possesses; the quality of sound available from these cute
satellites has to be heard to be believed.
Customisation
M-Cube is available in two standard finishes,
Ivory and Midnight, with further colour adaptability for owners
provided by a central coloured 'Comfort' fabric wrap. The lighter
(Ivory) satellite is fitted with a 'mushroom' wrap, whilst the darker
(Midnight) finish is fitted with a 'slate' wrap as standard. Three
further fabric wraps, 'umber', 'ruby' and 'olive' are included in
the M-Cube pack.
Floor stands, cables and wall brackets are
all part of the package and ensure M-Cube seamlessly blends with
any home furnishing style.
DML Technology
Utilising Mission's expertise working with
the latest advances in speaker design, M-Cube has been engineered
using Distributed Mode Loudspeaker (DML) flat panel technology,
combining wide ranging acoustics with freedom in aesthetic design.
Due to its excellent dispersion characteristics, M-Cube produces
a remarkably pure, coherent and uncoloured sound that is exceptionally
smooth and balanced anywhere in the room no matter where the satellites
are positioned. A further advantage of DML technology is its ability
to generate an even power level throughout the listening space,
so that anyone can enjoy the perfect home theatre experience from
any seating position.
Design & Build
Soft corners and chamfered faces play with
the minimalistic form to create a style that owners will be proud
to have in their living rooms. The satellites are constructed from
cast aluminium and thick-walled Mineral Loaded Polymer that, in
combination with the Comfort fabric wraps, create a warm to cold,
soft to hard contrast that encourages the tactile experience. Usually
in speaker design the vulnerable components, namely the drive units,
are protected from accidental damage by a speaker grille. M-Cube's
sound panel, however, is unusually robust and does not require extra
protection of a grille, thus taking a step away from the traditional
speaker box paradigm.
Subwoofer
The M-Cube subwoofer is available in two
finishes to complement either the Ivory or Midnight satellite package.
Featuring twin high power 200mm (8") drive units in a force cancelling
cabinet arrangement driven by an integrated 250W amplifier, the
M-Cube subwoofer will easily deliver powerful Low Frequency Effects
from modern movie soundtracks.
User controls are cleverly sited in the top
panel of the unit, rather than hidden round the back, enabling easy
access for user adjustment. Another neat feature is the LED-backlighting
that creates an ambient glow in conjunction with the recessed controls
that pop up when needed.
With many AV amplifiers now available in
6.1 format, M-Cube is equally versatile in offering 5.1 or 6.1 capability
in one system, with the subwoofer capable of six-channel input and
extra satellites available as an option.
In summary, M-Cube offers the consumer the
advanced styling, sound performance and versatility that brings
high fidelity right into the 21st century.
M-Cube will be available from November at
£1199 at selected Mission dealers and distributors.
