Thunder At Your Fingertips: REL Storm 5 Sub-Bass System (30/11/2004)

The REL Storm 5 sub-bass system promises characteristically high standards of performance, remotely controlled through an advanced digital user interface

Following the success of the REL Stampede and Strata 5 sub-bass systems, REL has announced the arrival of the Storm 5 system. Like the Stampede and Strata 5 before, the Storm 5 incorporates a sophisticated digital control regimen, which offers unmatched ease of use together with the most precise and comprehensive control of calibration parameters through a large blue front-firing LED display and a wireless handset. REL's acknowledged expertise in optimising acoustic and electronic design has extracted maximum performance from the Storm 5's ultra-compact sealed cabinet. It offers a performance (down to 15Hz in-room at Ð3dB) that is superior to that of its predecessor (Storm III), even though the Storm 5 is physically smaller. The Storm uses a 10" heavy-duty long-throw cast-chassis driver (down-firing), powered by an integral 200W DC-coupled MOSFET amplifier, housed in its own enclosure. As well as marking a significant upward shift in performance from the acclaimed Strata 5, the Storm 5 offers added features including right and left low-level inputs, LFE in and out and a high level balanced input. The Storm 5 is constructed from 30mm MDF and finished in a range of six real-wood veneers: Black Ash, Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Light Oak and Rosenut.
