Sony Targets Television Growth With Three New Flat-Screen
Super Slim-Line Models (27/10/2004)
New Sony Plasma and LCD TV Models Extend Customer
Choice and Reinforce Sony Quality and Design Heritage
Responding to a growing consumer demand for a
superior television viewing experience offered by the new generation
of ultra slim-line flat panel displays, Sony has expanded customer
choice and enriched lifestyle options in its range of high-resolution,
design conscious televisions. Building on one of the market's most
popular television ranges, Sony Europe has further extended its
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and Plasma TV ranges with three new
models that are designed to extend customer choice and enrich lifestyles
through market-leading image quality and distinctive design capabilities
- a Sony hallmark.
The new models demonstrate Sony's leading
edge technology capabilities in all areas of product design and
technology implementation. The new 37-inch KE-P37M1 television combines
plasma presentation technology with Sony's legendary WEGA engine
and PAL Progressive input capabilities to provide sublime VGA resolution
16:9 image quality. This is further strengthened with advanced Dolby
Virtual and BBE digital sound processing that all together sets
new mainstream standards in home entertainment. At the same time,
the 30-inch KLV-30HR3 and 27-inch KLV-27HR3 represent the next strategic
milepost on Sony's LCD TV development roadmap. Harnessing the latest
developments in liquid crystal display technology, these new VESA
compliant models combine superior XGA resolution widescreen picture
quality with a superb wide viewing angle (up to 170 degrees) and
a compact, lightweight design that looks equally great free standing
or wall-mounted. Advanced features, such as Picture Freeze and built
in AC power capabilities further enhance their use throughout the
home - in kitchens, studies and bedrooms.
European consumer tastes evolve
"The development of these new models is driven
by customer feedback that tells a simple and strong story. Consumers
appreciate the benefits of the new generation LCD and plasma TVs
but they are not prepared to break the bank in order to buy one,"
comments Andreas Ditter, Director, Television Marketing Europe at
Sony Europe. "These three new models fall within our mainstream
range; they offer superb home entertainment at affordable prices;
and they look fantastic in any home environment. We are predicting
a large demand for these new models in the run up to Christmas."
Picture clarity and resolution are strengths
of these new televisions. All three models utilise Sony's PAL 3D
comb filter to create realism in the image quality that is tangible.
It is the LCD models' image quality that stops people in their tracks.
With outstanding 1280 x 768 XGA resolution across its entire screen,
the KLV-30HR3 represents best in class and best value for money
in the 30-inch display category.
Great looks, Stunning Pictures
Part of the secret of Sony's success in all
its electronics design and development operations is an ability
to combine form and function. Available in either black or silver,
these new models offer a high degree of elegant design sophistication
at price points that were previously unattainable. With a profile
of just 116mm (KE-P37M1) or 119mm (KLV-30HR3/KLV-27HR3) these TV
sets create a stunning visual focus to any design conscious living
room. The televisions each have two 10W speakers, which are inconspicuously
integrated below the screen and present one continuous panel display
capable of outstanding audio reproduction. Another option is to
seamlessly integrate the TV within the existing home entertainment
network via an audio output. The KE-P37M1 has audio output terminals
that interface directly to Sony home theatre systems, enabling the
user to enjoy all the power and realism of true 5.1 surround sound
provided through the system.
Despite the smooth slim-line contours and
ergonomic button and input placement, these new models represent
fully featured Televisions that integrate harmoniously within existing
Sony home AV entertainment networks. Emphasising their integration
capabilities, a wide range of input options includes tuner, Scart
(x3), component vide/audio, S-video and composite audio/video.
