DVD/HDD Combination Unlocks Door to Recording Flexibility
(30/9/2004)
Combining DVD and Hard Disk recording in one neat
package, Sharp's new video recorder gives the flexibility to make
the most of today's multi-channel TV world.
The DV-HR350H's sleek, titanium-coloured
cabinet, designed to complement Sharp's Titanium Series of Aquos
LCD TVs, houses a DVD-R/-RW recorder deck and a hard disk (HDD)
recorder with 120Gb of memory to offer the very latest in digital
recording technology for television.
Whether the viewer wants to catch up on the
latest episodes of his/her favourite soap, record a famous sporting
victory for posterity, or even pause live television whilst popping
into the kitchen to make a cup of tea, the DV-HR350H is up to the
task. Using a straightforward, built-in programme guide or VideoPlus+,
the user can store of to 150 hours of TV on the hard disk*, or alternatively
record directly to a DVD-R or DVD-RW recordable disk.
The hard disk offers four pre-set recording
quality modes, and is perfect for recording programmes to watch
once at a later date and then delete, or to 'time shift - where
the viewer can simultaneously record and playback, meaning a programme
can effectively be paused and returned to soon after. In addition,
editing functions make it easy to delete unwanted footage on the
hard disk and link separate recordings together. It's also ideal
for storing video before dubbing it across to a recordable DVD,
which can be written at 12x normal speed with no loss of quality.
Of course, TV can be recorded directly to
a DVD if required, and the DVD-R/RW facility is particularly useful
for archiving important recordings. The deck will also play back
standard, pre-recorded DVDs, DVD+R/+RW format recordings, CDs, CD-R/-RW
recordable CDs, MP3 CDs and Video CDs, so it can form the centre
of an all-round home entertainment system for the lounge.
The DV-RW350H has a wide range of inputs
and outputs for connection to other video and audio devices, including
two Scart sockets; component, S-Video and Video out. The front panel
also features DV-in, plus S-Video and Video in, making digital transfer
of camcorder recordings to the hard disk or a DVD simple.
Audio is equally well catered for, with a
digital audio out terminal supporting DTS, Dolby digital and MPEG
digital audio, meaning the connection of the DV-HR350H to a dedicated
surround sound home cinema amp system will add another dimension
to the viewing experience.
The DV-HR350H is available in September,
and joins the 80Gb DV-HR300H to give a choice of Sharp hard disk
DVD recorders in this rapidly expanding sector.
