Philips Cineos Televisions Enhance Home Entertainment
Viewing (27/9/2004)
Today at the 2004 CEDIA Expo, Philips Electronics
showed its leadership in HDTV with the line-up of its latest Cineos
televisions. With the ability to display sensational high-definition
picture quality and providing extra-large screen sizes, the Cineos
line from Philips creates the ultimate home cinema viewing experience.
Ranging in size from 44- to 55-inches, the Cineos line utilizes
Philips' breakthrough LCOS (Liquid Crystal On Silicon) technology
offering superb, natural colors and picture sharpness in a slim,
lightweight set design.
"With our range of Cineos televisions, we
will strengthen our position in the fast growing large screen TV
market," said Des Power, Senior Vice President, General Manager
Regional Business Management and Marketing, Philips Consumer Electronics,
North America. "We expect LCOS technology to take a significant
share of the market thanks to the unique combination of exceptional
large-screen picture quality and compact size at an attractive and
affordable price level. With a Cineos television, the viewer truly
gets the latest technology with unparalleled, convenient functionality."
According to recent market research finding,
shipments of televisions 32-inches and larger are expected to jump
from eight to 20 million by 2005. Philips Cineos line includes three
models (55PL9774S, 44PL952S and 55PL9524S) designed to meet this
growing consumer demand and provide the latest display technology
combined with a sleek, lightweight design.
Extra Large Display at an Affordable Price
A small footprint and short cabinet depth
allows Cineos to fit easily into virtually any living environment.
Until now this kind of high-grade giant screen display had only
been available in conventional CRT-based sets with a much larger
cabinet size and greater weight. The use of the latest LCOS technology
makes possible the combination of a large, highresolution display
with a compact cabinet size and an attractive price.
A major advantage of this technology is the
absence of a visible pixel grid, which normally reduces the amount
of transmitted light. The reduced gap between pixels ensures maximum
image brilliance and allows the full pixel size to be visible. The
very rapid switching of the LCOS panel results in smooth, true-color
images that are completely flicker-free.
With its monitor-grade resolution of 1280
x 720 pixels, Cineos TVs are an excellent choice for today and tomorrow's
high-quality digital video sources such as the emerging progressive
scan DVD systems and HDTV broadcasts. Cineos TVs also give excellent
results with text display, including applications combining TV and
text-rich computer and Internet display functions. They also feature
Philips' Digital Natural Motionª and Digital Crystal Clearª image-processing
technologies. These make a significant contribution to the sharp
picture quality from all sources, with natural colors and smooth,
true-to-life reproduction of even fast-moving subjects in the picture.
Cineos TVs can be used with virtually all
of today's image sources including antenna and cable connections.
The set also features HD Component and DVi inputs for instant high
definition connectivity. The set's two-tuner PIP (Picture In Picture)
allows simultaneous viewing of two programs in separate on-screen
windows. In addition, each set comes with a matching swivel base
for easy rotation or movement of the set.
Available in the second quarter, the 44PL9524S
and 55PL9524S will have a suggested MSRP of $3,299 and $4,199.
Ideal for High-Quality Digital Sources
The 44PL977S and 55PL9774S feature Philips
state-of-the-art Pixel Plusª technology. Pixel Plus is a next-generation
image-enhancer that creates high definition-like picture characteristics
from any input source, including satellite and cable. Philips created
Pixel Plus to provide consumers an HDTV-like image now, without
having to wait for HDTV programming. Available in the second quarter,
the 55PL9774S will have an MSRP of $4,299.
