Pelham Sloane Introduces PS1500M Flexible Solution
For Emerging Home Automation Market (17/9/2004)
Pelham Sloane Ltd. announces the addition of an
Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor version of its all-in-one PC, named
one of the HOT 50 products in 2004 by the editors of CE Pro magazine
and the CEDIA Daily. The combination of the Pentium M processor
and the space-saving PS1500, measuring less than three inches thick
Ð provides an effective solution for the burgeoning mid-priced home
automation marketplace.
With built-in wireless networking, touch
screen capability and flexible wall, desk or arm mounting options,
the PS1500M is integrated within a flat, LCD monitor. Pelham Sloane
builds to customer specifications, and the PS1500M can be expanded
and customized in the field.
"We are enthusiastic regarding the Pentium
M platform because it provides the ability to install a complete
and flexible home automation and entertainment system at affordable
prices," explains Chris Miller, Vice President for Marketing and
Product Development at Pelham Sloane. "The PS1500M eliminates the
need for proprietary software designed for panel-server systems
and eliminates the bulky towers, CRT monitors and installation complexity
of legacy computing," he added. Effectively, the PS1500M behaves
as both the user control point for a system and as the home automation
and media server for the entire installation.
The PS1500M uses dramatically less energy
than other computers and emits almost no heat. Compared to a traditional
tower desktop with a 200-watt power supply, the PS1500M draws only
45 watts. In power-saving mode, the PS1500M draws only 10-15 watts
Ð about as much as a night light. The computer emits so little heat
that the internal fan used to cool it is virtually silent. This
makes it a superior choice for home theaters or other applications
where computers must run unnoticed in the background.
Demonstrated for the first time at CEDIA
Expo 2004 in Indianapolis, September 8-12, the unit is shown as
the hub of a home theatre installation, sending video out to a flat
screen TV and Dolby Digital Audio 5.1 to a home theater receiver.
Also shown in a kitchen setting, Pelham Sloane's all-in-one PC is
mounted to a wall and multitasks by running a home security system,
heating and air conditioning and lights; enabling such computer
tasks as online grocery shopping; operating as a television and
serving as a portal to the Internet for browsing and e-mail.
The PS1500M provides Plug'n'Play compatibility
with third-party Microsoft(R) Windows(R) software and devices. It runs
Windows XP Professional and is Intel Centrino(TM)-compatible. The PS1500M
is available with popular options including wireless networking,
TV tuners, touch screens and PCMCIA slots. Standard ports include:
10/100 Ethernet; two USB 2.0, serial, parallel; IEEE 1394 (Firewire(R));
digital audio (S/P DIF-Dolby Digital 5.1) and analog audio in/out,
microphone, and VGA, component video and S-video in/out.Ê
The PS1500M offers 256MB to 1GB of RAM, hard
drives from 20GB to 80GB, and integrated optical drive options for
CD-ROM, CD-RW/DVD-ROM or DVD+/-RW.ÊThe PS1500M also has internal
wireless capability with the choice of Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 Network
Connection (802.11b @ 11 Mbps) or Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network
Connection (802.11G @ 54 Mbps or 802.11b @ 11 Mbps).
