New Castle Richmond 3i - A Classic Improved (2/8/2004)

The new improved Castle Richmond 3 - the Richmond 3i - will be available in Castle retailers from August onwards at a cost of £320 per pair.

The Richmond has been in successful production for over 10 years and as such can genuinely be described as a classic.

The new improved Richmond 3i features improvements in virtually all areas over the previous model. The result is a smoother more open balance with a weightier low end.

The cabinet volume has been increased to allow an improved bass response and better alignment.

The cabinet has been damped with bituminous pads to reduce colouration and character - an unusual feature at this price of loudspeaker.

The 130mm carbon fibre coned bass/mid driver has a larger magnet, increasing shove and delivering more control with improved dynamics.

The chassis of the bass/mid driver is cast aluminium alloy that is far more rigid than the usual plastics materials and is not ferro-magnetic like steel baskets that can reduce flux in the gap: sapping vital dynamics and potentially increasing the effects of signal induced flux modulation.

The 19mm low-modulus polyamide-domed HF unitās production techniques have improved sensitivity and consistency.

The crossover has been completely revised delivering a smother response, improved drive unit integration and an easier load.

The terminal panel is now stiffer reducing potential resonances and allows traditional wiring, bi-wiring or bi-amping.

Castle Acousticsā Sales and Marketing Director Fred Clayton commented that he was "confident that the new Richmond 3i would surprise quite a few retailers as to, just how much the new loudspeaker had improved over its predecessor."
