Runco Improves Home Theater Picture Over Longest Cable Distances Yet (8/7/2004)

The Exclusive LiveLink(tm) DVI Cable Sends High Definition Digital Images Farther Than Ever--Up to 75 Feet--With No Loss in Picture Quality

Runco International, the world leader in high-end home theater video display technology, unveiled the LiveLink(tm) DVI Cable, another Runco first that will revolutionize how Home Theaters are built and enjoyed. The Runco LiveLink(tm) Cable is the first and only DVI connecting cable that effectively supports long distance signal transmissions, preserving the quality of digital high definition video signal at cable runs up to 75 feet. This exclusive Runco-engineered innovation also finally allows custom installers to use standard sized wall and floor conduits in sending DVI signals from processors to remote video displays. Runco's LiveLink DVI Cable is available now in lengths of 25, 35, 50 and 75 feet.

"At Runco, our goal is to create solutions to the most difficult challenges, providing for a home theater experience that's second-to-none," said Bob Hana, president of Runco International. "Although Runco isn't in the signal cable design business, after hearing a number of our dealers express the need for a product with LiveLink's capabilities, we stepped up to the challenge. Our engineering team incorporated dealer feedback into the design of this new DVI cable, and now every installer has more freedom than ever to build a home theater that meets the homeowner's expectations within their specific architectural limitations."

Typically, DVI cables are reliable for transmitting high definition video signals (720p, 1080i) for only a few meters, although images are even then subject to distortion when cables are bent.

LiveLink's function begins with a DVI-to-HDMI conversion cable that starts signal transmission at the processor or A/V rack. Installers can easily run the small HDMI interface plug through standard wiring conduits, bypassing challenging installation environments, and ultimately lead the digital signal to the display device. Here, the HDMI interface connects to the LiveLink SmartBox(tm), which has an attached foot-long DVI pigtail cord to ultimately deliver the digital signal to the display's DVI port. The SmartBox contains the proprietary Runco-engineered circuitry behind LiveLink's exclusive signal preservation abilities. Power for the SmartBox is supplied by the DVI source, but a provision has been made for external powering if desired.
