Product launch underpins market commitment (14/6/2004)

Square D has launched the Domae consumer unit to meet the need for a cost-effective unit in domestic residences.

Domae has been made easy for electrical contractors to specify by adopting a modular design with additional options such as residual current circuit breakers (RCCBs), switches, split load kits and outgoing miniature circuit breakers (MCBs) sold separately.

Domae is available in six versions ranging from two to 16 outputs, or ways, and features plenty of space for connections. RCCBs and split load kits are available in both 80 and 100 A ratings. Domae has over 50 different possible configurations by combining the base version with the required options.

This makes specifying the unit much easier for the electrical contractor compared with other models on the domestic market where the exact configuration of the unit has to be selected before being fitted in the residence. Electrical contractors can carry a number of different components and need only assemble the correct configuration on site to save time.

All outgoing MCB's are fitted securely onto a moulded DIN rail with a clip that needs no tools, while mains connections are made using a comb busbar that can be easily cut to length. This is an advantage for electrical contractors when creating a split load board.

All that is needed is to cut the readily accessible busbar and, using the Square D split load kit, fit the correct RCCB. To increase Domae's flexibility the RCCB can be placed in any position along the moulded DIN rail. This allows electrical contractors to use any split load that they need for a particular contract. The copper busbar is supplied loose with Domae and is protected by a shroud when fitted for additional electrical safety.

Comments John Robb, Square D's Marketing Manager for Residential Systems and Solutions: "Consumer units are an important part of a domestic electrical installation and the advent of Domae ensures electrical contractors will have a product with the right level of functionality at an economic price".

Domae is supplied with neutral and earth bars, busbar, busbar shield, installation instructions and circuit identification labels. Square D expects that Domae will be the preferred consumer unit for newly built domestic residences and private refurbishment contracts.

Comments Robb: "Square D has the widest range of home automation and electrical products for domestic residences allowing us to meet any requirements in this market."
