The Max exhibits Hidden speakers at CEDIA 2004 (8/6/2004)
Speaker systems have come a long way in the last
few years. Unsightly, over-sized black box systems, an unfortunate
feature of many '80s interiors, have been replaced by perfectly
proportioned, silver-cased miniature designs. Despite their minimal
good looks, those in the know doubt their true capabilities. 'Big
bass needs big speakers' is almost a mantra. But is there a way
to get the sound AND the look right?
The Max thinks that there is. The company
has just introduced a stylish, state of the art speaker system designed
to recess directly into the wall. The Radia Series of in-wall ribbon
speakers simply slot into a rectangular cutout in standard stud
partitioning where they become 'virtually invisible'. The result
is a flush-fitting speaker system that looks good, provides best
use of space and, best of all gives excellent sound quality.
Ideal for home theatre applications, each
Radia monopole speaker is a self-contained unit. Available in heights
ranging from 1ft to more than 6ft, the speakers are available in
six different designs: three multi-channel and three primary options
to enhance and support both two-channel and home theatre applications.
The unit incorporates front-mounted speakers to ensure top quality
sound radiation while sound generated from the rear is absorbed
and dissipated.
Having conquered the style issue, it is important
to know that Radia in-wall speakers can not only match but also
surpass similar systems in terms of sound. The units use wideband
Planar Technology combined with the highest calibre conventional
cone drivers to create the only hybrid in-wall system currently
available. The result is beyond comparison: the speakers significantly
improve stereo imaging throughout the listening venue and high frequency
bounce and distortion is all but eliminated, even at incredibly
high volumes.
Free-standing Radia monopole units are also
available for situations where recessing into a wall is not possible.
Radia Series components are supplied with
a manufacturer's warranty for 5 years against defects in materials
and manufacture when used in properly designed systems and will
be displayed on The Max's stand at CEDIA 2004.
