Abrocour scoops New Business Award for leading consumer
revolution (27/5/2004)
Abrocour, which provides the wireless IT fixture
and fittings to new homes, has won Best New Business in the New
Media Age Awards 2004, announced last week. The company which was
set up just 9 months ago has ambitious plans to install its innovative
Openhome system in 50,000 of the 200,000 new homes built in the
next year and is well on the way to reaching its target.
"We're delighted to have been recognised
by New Media Age with this award for our achievements, we believe
we are leading a revolution for consumers Ð it won't be very long
before they expect to buy an ehome, one that is fully IT enabled:"
explained Sam Sethi, CEO of Abrocour.
Whilst there are other companies looking
to encourage consumers to take up complex wired home automation
systems with elaborate functions to operate curtains, appliances
and lighting, Open Home's simple, practical and wireless approach
to home connectivity and infotainment scored points with the judges
of the award because it recognises real consumer desires and aspirations.
Openhome utilises the very latest in cutting
edge wireless technology by teaming up with world leading companies
including BT, Elonex, HP, Intel and Microsoft to offer consumers
the ultimate digital lifestyle but at the same time provides consumers
a practical and usable system - a wire free solution with broadband
access including home monitoring alarm systems and a Microsoft Windows
Media Centre PC.
Sam Sethi continues: "Let's face it in reality
the majority of consumers are technophobic and wouldn't know where
to start when asked to use a keyboard and mouse but at the same
time they would like to access the internet for information and
entertainment services, if only it was easy. With Openhome, we provide
consumers with a Media Centre PC which serves as their TV, Personal
Video Recorder, hi-fi, web browser, internet radio and a personal
computer but all these functions plus the internet can now be accessed
from one familiar device a remote control. "
Abrocour is currently in the process of implementing
projects with 8 of the top 10 housebuilders with a view to pre-installing
Openhome as a standard service in all new builds. Mark Rees, COO,
Abrocour explains: "Housebuilders are in a strong position with
demand exceeding supply, but they like everyone else they need to
differentiate themselves from their competitors to further increase
sales. Openhome can help them do so with no additional cost whilst
saving them time by not having to pre-wire the home."
