Preserve Your Precious Video Content on Long Lasting DVD With Pioneer Combination VHS/DVD Recorder (26/5/2004)

Easily Transfer Video From VHS to DVD

More than half of U.S. households own a DVD player, but that doesn't mean that the stacks of VHS tapes have disappeared. Many consumers are still looking for an easy way to transfer their old VHS tapes to DVD, and Pioneer is delivering a solution with the DVR-RT500, a combination VCR with DVD recorder. With the proliferation of DVD players, most people recognize the advantages of DVD in picture quality, ease-of-use and longevity. They just don't realize how easy it can be to convert their archives of VHS to DVD.

Pioneer's DVR-RT500 is a full-featured combination player/recorder that offers one-button transfer from VHS to DVD. More importantly, once those old VHS tapes are converted to DVD, the DVR-RT500 will record new programming directly to DVD-R or DVD-RW discs. It offers a DVD-R/RW burner as well as a four-head hi-fi VCR for playback and recording of VHS tapes so consumers can still watch their favorite movies that have not yet been released on DVD.

Along with the high-quality DVD recording capabilities, the DVR-RT500 offers playback for progressive scan DVD, .mp3 and WMA(TM) compressed audio formats and a .jpg photo viewer. It also offers one-touch timer recording.

This DVD recorder is the eighth in Pioneer's current line, which includes an entry-level DVD recorder, a DVD recorder with hard drive, two DVD recorders with TiVo service, an internal computer DVD burner, an external computer DVD burner and a slim external DVD burner for laptop computers.

"DVD players and recorders are fast supplanting the VCR. As a result, consumers are looking for an easy way to transfer their old video tapes to DVD so they can focus on creating a new, all-digital video library," said Gary Bauhard, director of marketing for home entertainment at Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "Pioneer took the old champion of video recording (the VCR) and combined it with the new digital champion (DVD-R) to create the ultimate combination product."

The DVR-RT500 will be available in September at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $499.
