SofTECH/SDForum Event on the Battle for the Digital
Home (26/4/2004)
Wall Street Journal Deputy Bureau Chief, Don Clark,
will lead a panel discussion entitled "The Battle for the Digital
Home" in San Rafael, CA on April 28, 2004. The panel, which will
include Alfred T. Chu, principal of Panasonic Digital Concepts Center
and Mark Ely, senior vice president of strategic planning at Sonic
Solutions, is co-sponsored by SofTECH -- the North Bay Software
and Information Technology Association -- and the Silicon Valley-based
SDForum.
As the electronics industry shifts from analog
to digital technology, a major battle is taking place between the
industry giants and start-ups for control of the digital home. This
battle is costing billions of dollars in the quest for new technology.
While it has been underway for several years, recent developments
are reshaping the entire industry.
Everything from set-top boxes to digital
photography is driving new industry standards for the digital home.
The arrival of broadband and wireless technologies is changing the
rules. This panel will discuss these trends, and the technology
shaping them while answering the critical question: "Does the consumer
really want access to their favorite digital entertainment, including
recorded TV, photography, movies and music anywhere in the home?"
