Bylaw meets 21st century challenge with 17th century solution (16/3/2004)

Bylaw the Furniture Makers has built an enviable reputation for replicating period furniture so perhaps it is not surprising that late 17th century technology has provided the solution to a 21st century challenge!

To conceal a 42" plasma screen, the Bylaw bookcase TV cabinet has two rows of false books mounted on a sliding panel. The panel easily rises and falls using the principle of counter-balancing similar to that of a sash window - a concept first devised in the 1670s! When closed it becomes a convincing bookcase. The lower cupboards can adequately house DVD & video player, Sky box and all other equipment necessary to 'drive' the plasma screen.

Graham Hayes (Bylaw Sales Director) says "Every customer's needs are different, so our Bespoke Furniture Service is available to create cabinets to fit specific equipment and to suit the customer's available room space." A further beautifully crafted Bylaw cabinet conceals a Plasma TV which rises from within by remote-control.

Bylaw offers other 'period' solutions to conceal modern communication equipment when not in use, an impressive 18th C glazed bookcase complete with distinguished tomes opens to reveal a computer and monitor together with all their accompanying peripheral equipment.
