Pre-wire kit saves cost of offering intelligent lighting
(8/3/2004)
An inexpensive pre-wire kit that allows the future
installation of intelligent lighting control is now available from
Marata Vision. The Polaron Lightlink Pre-wire Kits (LPK) can be
installed by developers at low cost, allowing the eventual purchaser
of the property to opt for intelligent lighting at any time.
The compact LPK enclosures are installed
during the first-fix stage, and dual wiring (conventional and data
cable) is run to standard UK wall switch backboxes. If the eventual
purchaser requires the upgrade, all that is needed is to replace
the conventional wall switches or dimmers with control plates, connect
the data cables and fit processor and dimmer modules in the LPKs.
"Developers can offer the option of high-tech
lighting, without incurring the up-front costs," explained Marata
Vision's Bob Wheeler. "Everyone benefits, since even if the purchaser
only wants conventional lighting, the property's value is enhanced
by being easily convertible at a future time."
The British made Pre-wire Kit is expected
to sell for under GBP300 + VAT. It can house an eight-channel Polaron
Lightlink dimmer module and a Lightlink Scene Processor module.
Included in the enclosure are six 6 amp single-pole miniature circuit
breakers (mcbs) and two 6 amp double-pole mcbs. Provision is also
included for integrated audiovisual / lighting control.
Each load circuit, consisting of a single
pendant, group of wall lights or grid of low voltage downlights
up to 1100W, is protected by one of the 6 amp mcbs. Channels 4 and
8 are fitted with double pole mcbs to provide a non-switched protected
output for extractor fans, emergency lighting etc.
The structured design of the kits means that
not all circuits have to be converted. If preferred, some circuits
may be left with conventional switching.
Intelligent lighting controls not only offer
the luxury of remote control of various lighting ambiances, but
they can also be integrated with security and safety systems.
