The new face of Denon Home Cinema and a new price / performance benchmark (2/3/2004)

On sale UK in April 2004 - The latest Hot SHARC Analog Devices 32-bit DSP and sound quality improvements throughout. That's before the new features, the sleek new styling and the radical new remote control.

The Denon AVR-3805 replaces the highly rated AVR-3803 and delivers a huge performance boost. The jump in model number is deliberate to signify a major model change and upgrade. Every single element has been examined and upgraded, the very latest chipsets have been used and the latest codecs incorporated. The 3805 is designed to leapfrog current and anticipated competition in both performance, sound quality and real-life usable features.

- 7 x 160 watts DIN discrete power amps*

- 7 x 120 full bandwidth watts rms amps

- Auto Setup Calibration and Auto Room EQ Supplied with a very high quality microphone - this system is more accurate and covers more parameters than competing systems

- New 32-bit DDSC-D inc. latest SHARC DSP

- Higher-grade DSPs & DACS throughout

- Dolby Pro-Logic IIx & DTS Enhanced Neo:6

- DenonLink 3rd edition capable digital audio input

- Denon AL24 Processing and HDCD

- Pure Direct mode for music

- Video-transcoding to component

- Radical new handset RC-970

- Upgraded styling and build quality

- 7 x 160 watts DIN discrete power amps

* This figure is for comparison purposes as some competitors use this DIN spec to inflate their power outputs. Some only quote into 6 ohms at 1kHz at 1% distortion for the same reason. Real specs should be 20Hz to 20kHz into 8 ohms at less than 0.05% distortion

The AVR-3805 ships as standard with the Denon RC-970 Electroluminescent (EL) Touchscreen Remote

The most advanced remote ever shipped with a receiver in this class. Fully EL backlit handset with pick-up touch sensor - pick it up, it lights up, put it down it goes to sleep. The huge displays reconfigure to match every Denon function, touchscreen controls for playing a DVD appear when DVD is selected, tuner gives tuning and so on. The handset has full learning capabilities and is pre-programmed for most major brands. The RC-970 will control AV, Hi-fi, TV, satellite etc etc.

Compatibility With All Today's Advanced Home Cinema Audio Formats

The Denon AVR-3805 is an all-in-one high-end home cinema receiver with seven built-in channels of ampli-fication (120 watts per channel, 8 ohms, 20Hz -20kHz, <0.05% THD) to drive all the main loudspeakers in a 7.1 home cinema surround sound system. For compatibility with all of today's advanced home cinema audio formats, it features 7.1-channel surround decoding of Dolby Digital Surround EX, DTS, DTS 96/24 5.1 for DVD-Video, DTS ES Discrete 6/1, ES Matrix 6.1 and Enhanced Neo: 6 Cinema & Music modes, as well as Dolby PLIIx (for cinema, music and games).

Denon's First-Ever Auto Set-Up Calibration

The AVR-3805 marks the debut of a significant Denon first - a new Auto Set-Up calibration and Room EQ feature that makes it easier to tailor the performance of the receiver for any home cinema listening environment. The AVR-3805 Auto Set-Up analyzes and calibrates six critically important settings: speaker connection, phase, size and frequency response. Also the AVR-3805 adjusts channel level and time delay, while Room EQ corrects frequency response with an 8-band parametric equalizer and adjusts to the optimum soundfield, compensat-ing for speaker and room capability issues. Denon's calibration feature also utilizes higher-performance DSP processors, along with the finest Digital to Analog converters, to define optimum sound quality. For best results, the AVR-3805 ships with a specially designed calibration microphone for the setup feature. Both the EQ and Auto Set-Up features can be disabled for consumers who prefer calibrating their receivers in the traditional manner.

Full Multi-Room capability plus Power Amp Assign

The AVR-3805 has true 3 Source, 3 Zone functionality with Discrete Power and Source Select for each zone. Two Multi-Zone stereo pre-amp level audio outputs, fixed or variable level (Zone 3 fixed only) plus one Multi-Zone Composite Video output In addition, Denon's Power Amp Assign function adds to the AVR-3805's flexibility in providing high-quality surround sound solutions. The majority of home theater systems are 5.1-channel, this feature allows users to enjoy a fully-powered, discrete two-channel second zone. The AVR-3805 also has an RS232 serial port for external controllers.

Advanced Technologies For Performance

The AVR-3805 delivers superlative sound quality, thanks to premium digital audio technologies such as the latest 2004 Analog Devices SHARC 32-bit floating point DSP processing and Denon's proprietary advanced DDSC-D (Dynamic Discrete Surround Decoder-Digital) circuitry.

Video up-conversion plus 100mHz HDTV ready component inputs

For simplicity of video connectivity and switching, the AVR-3805 includes video up-conversion from composite and/or S-video sources to component video without compromising video quality. There are three assignable sets of component inputs and one set of monitor outputs (all with 100MHz Bandwidth).

Denon Link 3

Like the flagship AVC-A1SRA amplifier, the AVR-3805 features the latest Denon Link 3, which allows the receiver to receive high-resolution, multi-channel digital audio data directly from the Denon DVD-A1 and DVD-A11 DVD players (and future Denon products) for enhanced sonic performance. Denon Link 3 is compatible with all previously released Denon Link products and is now ready to accept digital SACD data from future Denon source units, when formal approval is granted.
