Axiom's Natural Setting Inspires Products Capable
of Transparent, Clear and Unblemished Sound Quality (1/3/2004)
Perhaps it's only logical that Axiom Audio, a
loudspeaker company located in a natural, unspoiled region of lakes
and forests in Northern Ontario, should produce speakers capable
of natural, transparent, and untainted sound quality. In fact, Axiom's
wilderness location puts the manufacturer within relatively easy
reach of one of the world's renowned acoustical facilities, the
National Research Council (NRC) in Ottawa, Canada. It's at this
facility where the initial measurements and listening tests of Axiom
prototype speakers are carried out.
This is also where Axiom Audio founder and
chief designer Ian Colquhoun sparked a new period of progress in
the annals of loudspeaker design with his work at the NRC's lab,
under the direction of Dr. Floyd E. Toole. There he spent innumerable
hours perfecting innovation after innovation. The revolutionary
methodology resulting from this work was recognized and published
in industry journals around the world. (The rigorous research confirmed
the relationship of careful speaker design and measurements with
high rankings by listeners in "blind" comparison tests.) Canadian
audio engineering gained particularly high status, which Ian Colquhoun
and his company have helped maintain ever since.
Today's Axiom speaker line offers a wide
range of compact and floor-standing models that move the benchmarks
further than ever. Axiom now produces eight-sided seamless cabinets
with the ground-breaking Anti-Standing Wave (ASW) wedge-shaped design,
esoteric aluminum-cone and titanium drivers, internal crossover
network innovations, and distortion-free vortex porting.
Axiom has combined the results of its acoustical
measurement and listening tests to build a complete line of stereo
and home theater loudspeakers that equal or outclass the performance
of many prestigious, better-known and much more expensive brands
at a fraction of their price. For instance, Axiom's largest "bookshelf"
speaker, the much-praised three-driver M22ti, which sells for only
$400 per pair (including shipping), has been compared by independent
reviewers to speakers selling at $1,000 or more:
"The M22ti is more transparent and less colored
than any speaker I know of that sells for less than $1,000. . .
a beautifully tuned speaker with an enormously clean and musical
midrange," notes John Potis, of www.goodsound.com
With reviews like that, the M22ti demonstrates
that neutral, transparent hi-fi sound needn't cost the earth. Indeed,
Axiom's most expensive tower speaker, the six-driver M80ti, is just
$1,100 per pair. Complete Axiom home theater surround sound systems
range from $1100 to $2,400, including shipping charges to any US
or Canadian location.
Axiom's reputation has grown dramatically
among audio aficionados throughout North America, becoming an extremely
popular "secret" among A/V enthusiasts. By emphasizing the practical
application of ongoing research, Axiom continues to extend people's
expectations of performance and value.
Utilizing the most advanced computerized
manufacturing equipment in the industry, critically acclaimed Axiom
Audio is one of the world's finest loudspeaker designers and manufacturers.
Axiom Audio is a division of Colquhoun Audio Laboratories.
