In the two years since the AVC-A1SR was launched as the ultimate integrated AV amp, little has come close. Although competitors have arrived loaded with new features, nothing quite matches the A1SR's combination of high-end decoding, real-world usability and absolute brute force. When other £3000 amps overheat and shut down, the A1SR just keeps on going, which is why it is the amp of choice for home cinema installers.

New in the 'A'

* Dolby Pro-Logic IIx - now up to 7 channels of synthesised surround from stereo & 5.1 sources

* DTS Enhanced NEO:6 - the latest version with 24 bit / 96 kHz bandwidth, superb on music

* HDCD for CD - even better sound from HDCD encoded CDs when decoded in the amp via Denon Link

* Denon Link 3 ready - for the forthcoming version that handles all formats including SACD/DSD (SACD transfer licensing is awaiting final sign-off)

Denon Link is the highest performance digital link available, substantially outperforming IEEE1394 FireWire in the areas of jitter, susceptibility to noise & interference and with a massively greater transfer speed of 1.2 gB per second as opposed to 400 mB per sec. This gives extra headroom and potential for future expansion.

The A1SRA will receive, decode amd process the raw digital audio data from a matching Denon DVD player, (DVD-A1, DVD-A11 and more to come) delivering marked sonic improvements on DVD video soundtracks, CD stereo music and two-channel / multi-channel DVD-Audio and on Denon Link 3, SACD/DSD.

Upgrades since 2001

In 2001 with the AVC-A1SE, Denon was the first to offer an upgrade path for integrated AV amps and have delivered two substantial upgrades to existing owners, adding THX-Ultra2, DTS 96/24, new SHARCs, Denon Link 2 and much more. The A1SR/A incorporates a specific digital bay allowing for future expansion.
