2Wire Reaches Millionth Unit Milestone: Pace Picks Up on Global Adoption of Intelligent Residential Gateways For Broadband Connectivity and Home Networking (5/2/2004)

2Wire has just sold its millionth residential gateway since the product was launched in August 2000.

The leading provider of broadband service platforms signed multiple distribution agreements last year with DSL providers in Europe and Latin America. 2Wire also opened offices and appointed a sales team in the UK to support further European expansion. As a result, the company experienced significant growth in shipment volumes in 2003.

2Wire has 54% share of the global residential gateway market and is the fastest growing company in the CPE (Consumer Premises Equipment) market, according to the latest findings from In-Stat/MDR(1). Its customers include the world's major DSL broadband service providers, whose subscribers comprise 55% of the US DSL market, 8% of the European market and 12% of the Latin American market.

"We've expanded our geographic reach and our proposition in the last twelve months in order to capitalize on the increasing demand for broadband services," said Brian Hinman, CEO and founder of 2Wire.

"Service providers need to be able to offer new services in a cost-effective, risk-free way. Subscribers want a convenient, enjoyable broadband experience. Our broadband services platform, comprising of residential gateways integrated with an intelligent backend management system, meets both their requirements. Shipping our millionth unit is an important milestone in our goal to become the standard for broadband service delivery platforms among DSL providers worldwide," continued Hinman.

"The residential gateway, as exemplified by 2Wire, will become a key home networking and aggregated services interface in the next two years, as it provides all the essential elements of home network connectivity in one box," said Kurt Scherf, vice president of research at Parks Associates. "This trend is likely to help fuel 2Wire's growth globally."
