Linn's KINOS System Controller (5/2/2004)

KINOS is an advanced, high-performance, multi-channel AV System Controller that uses the proven and reliable technology first seen in the Linn flagship KISTO system controller. It offers intuitive control and user-friendly, menu-driven set-up for high performance AV systems.

KINOS can process precisely the full range of quality formats, including Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic II & Music mode, Dolby Headphone, AAC Surround, MPEG Surround, DTS Surround, DTS 96/24, DTS CD, DTS ES Matrix & Discrete.

Additional surround algorithms and bass redirect options are also supported including Stereo + Sub Analog/Digital Bass Redirect, Limbik Party, 3 Stereo Analog/Digital Downmix, Phantom Analog/Digital Downmix, LoRo Analog 5.1 to stereo Downmix, LtRt Digital Downmix.

When the KINOS system controller is used with Linn's UNIDISK 1.1 and 2.1 players, an RS232 link can be used to enable automatic pre-selection of the most appropriate decoding algorithm or analogue channels, determined by the disk type being played.

Two variants of the product are available: KINOS system controller and KINOS+. The KINOS system controller includes an Independent Record path for uncompressed audio only, while the KINOS+ contains an independent record path module which includes an additional DSP and DAC, allowing independent recording of compressed sources. The LINN REKORD module is available as an upgrade for the KINOS system controller, to enable independent recording of compressed sources, should it be required at a later date.

Concealed sockets on the front panel provide a user-friendly, quick access solution for less frequently used products, for example, a games console, video camcorder, headphones.

An end-user and installer-friendly product, the KINOS system controller incorporates a Linn-designed user interface, first deployed in the KISTO top of the line product, for fast, simple set-up and ease of control and storage of customisable user or system profiles. A standard PS2 keyboard can also be plugged into the front of the unit for product set-up and fast text entry and naming of sources. RC5 input/output sockets are included for direct integration with other Linn products.

When used as part of a KNEKT multi-room system the KINOS system controller can be simply integrated with other Linn or third party Home Theater components. In addition, the unit incorporates an RS232 interface for integration with third-party products. Four independent 12V triggers are also embodied in the unit, and can be assigned to operate lighting control, blinds, curtains, projector lifts and so on, to facilitate powerful and comprehensive integrated entertainment solutions.
