Appairent Technologies Demonstrates First IEEE 802.15.3 Standard Solution; IEEE 802.15.3 Delivers Robust Multimedia Experience (27/1/2004)

Appairent Technologies Inc. is the first company to demonstrate a home-entertainment solution using the IEEE 802.15.3 Standard. The IEEE 802.15.3 Standard was designed from the ground up to provide high quality delivery of multimedia content throughout the home to portable and stationary consumer electronic devices.

Appairent Technologies recently demonstrated its solution at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, showcasing a home-media server wirelessly streaming DVD-quality MPEG2 video with Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound audio to multiple speakers and video displays. The demonstration highlighted the ability to stream video with synchronized audio to independent front and rear speaker systems. Recognizing that today's multimedia consumer experience is not limited to a single room, Appairent also demonstrated the ability to penetrate multiple walls and deliver DVD quality multimedia experience to remote displays. The demonstration also proved that Appairent's robust Transpairent Radio system operates effectively in the presence of simultaneously operating microwave ovens, 2.4 GHz cordless phones, 802.11 access points and Bluetooth(TM) radios.

Appairent's Transpairent Radio Evaluation System (TRES) is a development platform for applications that use the 802.15.3 standard to deliver multimedia content and data. The wireless link operates in the globally available 2.4 GHz band at data rates of up to 55 Mb/s with throughput in excess 42 Mb/s.
