Philips Introduces Five New DVD Recorders (19/1/2004)
Philips Electronics continues its leadership in
DVD+RW recording today with the announcement of the personalized
DVD Video Recorder/ Hard Disk player today at the 2004 Consumer
Electronics Show (CES). The new HDRW720 is a DVD+RW recorder that
features a combination of innovative functionalities for ultimate
convenience. It includes a built-in 80 GB Hard Disk, TV GUIDE TM
on-screen Electronic Program Guide (EPG), Personal Video Recording
(PVR) and FlexTime. With this combination, the HDRW720 enables consumers
to view and record all their favorite programs with a few clicks
of a button.
In addition to the HDRW720, Philips offers
a choice of new DVD Recorders to fit each personal lifestyle, with
the DVDR755, a unique DVD Recorder that features High Definition
playback of DVDs, the easy to use DVDR740, the basic model DVDR615
and DVDR600VR to preserve your VHS tapes on a DVD disc.

allows consumers to choose the best product for their lifestyle,"

North America. "As the DVD Recorder market grows, Philips continues
to create options that fit consumers' DVD recording needs, from
personalized video recording to high-definition quality playback."
Market research conducted by IDC predicts that millions of U.S.
consumers are likely to purchase a DVD Recorder in the next year.
By 2005, consumer spending on DVD Recorders should overtake DVD
player sales and be in approximately 40 percent of all U.S. homes,
according to the Digital Entertainment Group.
Experience Ultimate Flexibility in Recording
with the HDRW720
The new DVD Recorder/ Hard Disk combination
enables consumers to adjust their TV viewing to their every day
lives. Consumers have the option to record directly onto the Hard
Disk to watch at their leisure or save the program onto DVD for
life. The HDRW720 is the first Hard Disk recorder announced to provide
consumers with an easy-to-use TV Guide On-Screen (EPG) that enables
consumers to just point and click to record their favorite programs.
With the Personal Video Recording functionality, the HDRW720 automatically
records all favorite programs.
With the FlexTime feature, consumers are
able to watch the beginning of a program while it is being recorded
or replayed if an important moment is missed during the recording.
With the touch of a button, High Speed Archiving
can make a copy of a recording from the Hard Disk onto a DVD+R/+RW
in up to 20 times the speed of recording time. The built-in 80 GB
Hard Disk can store up to 130 hours of television, allowing consumers
to digitally record their favorite programs.
For crisp clear copies of camcorder memories,
the HDRW720 features a front i.LINK TM digital connection providing
easy connection for perfect copies and two-way camera control.
Available Summer 2004, the HDRW720 will have
a suggested retail price of $699.
Enjoy Unique High Definition Quality Playback
with the DVDR755
Consumers will experience superior audio/video
recording and playback with the Philips' DVDR755. The DVDR755 is
the first DVD recorder in the market that features HDMI output for
digital High Definition video and digital audio so that regular
movie DVDs or home movies can be watched in the highest possible
resolution and picture quality. The DVDR755 also features Faroudja
DCDiTM progressive scan for improved resolution through pixel-based
digital motion adaptation and Video Upscaling for improved resolution.
The DVDR755 also enables consumers to record in 5.1 multi-channel
audio and with a component video input, the unit offers the best
digital recording quality from a set top box.
In addition, the DVDR755 is a Digital Photo
Recorder with a PCMCIA Media Slot allowing consumers to capture,
edit, share and preserve their favorite memories from their digital
camera using almost all memory cards.
The DVDR755 can record more than 3,600 pictures
on a single DVD giving consumers the ability to share home movies
and family photo albums. Only with the DVD+RW format consumers are
able to put still and moving pictures on the same disc, allowing
the creation of an interactive family album. Available in Summer
2004, the DVDR755 will have a suggested retail of $799.
Point-and-Click Recording with DVDR740
Providing consumers a simple and easy recording
experience, the new DVDR740 lets consumers record a favorite television
program with the simple touch of a button. The DVD Recorder includes
the TV Guide TM On-Screen EPG that allows consumers to record a
program with just a touch of a button with no need for a subscription
fee or phone line connection.
The DVDR740 also offers a software technology
developed by YesDVD to simplify the editing of home videos. It automatically
determines local chapter points, creates thumbnail images from scenes
and places them on the DVD's main menu and DVD case for easy searching
and viewing. The YesDVD software also includes highlight music videos
made from the best clips from the video source synchronized to jazz,
rock and classical tunes. The result is a professionally featured
DVD that is fun to view with family and friends.
For optimal sound, consumers will enjoy 5.1
multi-channel audio recording via the digital audio input and the
best digital recording quality from a set top box with the component
video input. The DVDR740 also allows consumers to easily preserve
favorite memories on DVD with features such as i.LINK digital connection
and i.LINK camera control. The i.LINK camera control allows the
consumer to control digital camcorders or PCs with the DVD Recorder's
remote control via the on-screen display menu for synchronized stop
and start recording control.
The DVDR740 will be available in September
2004 and have a suggested retail of $599.
Experience the Simplicity of DVD Recording
with the DVDR615
For the consumer who values simplicity, Philips
offers the DVDR615 to preserve, record, archive and to share favorite
memories on DVD. The Philips' DVDR615 includes Philips' standard
features that ensure easy and quality digital recordings including
i.LINK digital connection.
The DVDR615 has Smart Chaptering features,
as well as progressive scan output and component video input to
ensure the best digital recording quality. Available in April, the
DVDR615 will have a suggested retail of $499.
Preserve VHS Tapes with the DVDR600VR
Record your favorite TV programs and copy
existing home movie tapes on DVD with the Philips DVDR600VR. Utilizing
the integrated VCR, consumers easily can record from VHS to DVD
and vice versa. The DVDR600VR features one-touch copy between VHS
and DVD for a simple transfer.
Available in Summer 2004, the Philips' DVDR600VR
will have a suggested retail of $599.
All of these new introductions offer consumers
the benefits of the DVD+RW format, as well as outstanding picture
quality, compatibility with existing and future DVD players and
the ability to capture memories on a rewritable DVD+RW or permanent
