Onkyo Debuts Reference Quality Universal Player With
HDMI digital A/V Interface and iLink Multichannel Output (16/1/2004)
THX Ultra DV-SP1000 features DVD-A/SACD compatibility,
advanced digital A/V outputs, and customizable HD video scaler
Onkyo has introduced the THX Ultra-certified DV-SP1000,
a reference grade universal player that features state of the art
circuitry and connectivity options for the ultimate in reproduction
quality with virtually any disc format. The player features digital
multichannel audio output via iLink (IEEE 1394) and digital video
output via DVI-compatible HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface),
and includes a sophisticated internal scaler.
"The DV-SP1000 is the product that serious
home theater and multichannel music enthusiasts have been waiting
for," said Onkyo Product Manager Don Milks. "With the addition of
HDMI digital video output for DVDs and iLink for SACD and DVD-Audio,
we are now able to give consumers access to the full capabilities
and quality of high resolution audio and video in a single source
unit."
For video reproduction, the DV-SP1000 includes
a rear-panel HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connection
that delivers digital video information to modern HD display devices
without the degradation caused by additional circuitry. The unit
features a high quality O-Plus FlexScale(tm) video scaler that is
capable of outputting video signals in a variety of customizable
HD formats, including 720p or 1080i, for the ultimate in DVD-video
performance.
For SACD and DVD-Audio discs, the DV-SP1000
includes two iLink (IEEE 1394) connections for digital output of
high resolution 5.1-channel audio signals. When combined with a
compatible receiver, such as the Onkyo TX-NR1000, this ability delivers
the ultimate in sound reproduction and simplifies bass management
duties, all over a single cable. Additionally, there are 7.1-channel
analog outputs for consumers wishing to take advantage of the player's
high quality internal decoding circuitry.
The player's video circuitry also employs
a new Analog Devices 216 MHz/14-bit video D/A converter, with high
quality Silicon Images deinterlacing circuitry with 3:2 pulldown
conversion. For analog component video, the need for menu selection
of interlaced or progressive scan output is eliminated by the inclusion
of dedicated connections for each. There are also two S-Video and
two composite video jacks, and all video outputs are always active.
The DV-SP1000 also includes standard coaxial
and optical digital outputs for compatibility with other processing
equipment. The player features internal Dolby Digital and DTS decoding,
and employs sophisticated 192 kHz/24-bit Wolfson VQA(tm) DACs combined
with Onkyo's exclusive VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry) to
deliver the highest quality analog audio output.
The DV-SP1000 also includes a bidirectional
RS-232 port and IR in and out jacks for compatibility with control
systems. It features extremely solid construction with a rigid aluminum
chassis, integrated stabilizer network, and feet to reduce vibration
for sonically superior playback. The attractive faceplate LED display
and button illumination includes a four-way dimmer circuit. It also
includes a full-function backlit aluminum preprogrammed/learning
remote control.
The Onkyo DV-SP1000 will be available in
April at a suggested retail price of $2000.
