Daewoo Shows State-Of-The-Art Plasma TV Displays At CES (8/1/2004)

Daewoo Electronics America, Inc. took the wraps off of its complete line of ultra-slim plasma digital televisions today at the International Consumer Electronics Show. A wall-filling 60-inch model that will be in production by the fourth quarter of 2004 emphasizes the company's goal to become a major force in the digital TV market by 2007. Daewoo Electronics is one of only five manufacturers of plasma televisions to build its own display panels, and is committed to providing exceptional quality at an affordable price.

The company's plasma-panel displays on exhibit include:

* DP-50GM: 50-inch and DP-60GM: 60-inch models are available in the wide-screen high-definition digital plasma display that is only 3.2 inches deep. It's capable of reproducing the full range of digital-TV formats, including 480i, 480p, 1080i and its native 720p resolution. The display offers 1,000 cd/m2 peak luminance and a 160-degree viewing angle. A digital 3D comb filter and Dynamic Pixel Management is also included. The 50-inch model will be available for the first quarter of 2004 with an MSRP of $7,499 and the 60-inch version will be available for the third quarter of 2004 with an MSRP of $9,999.

* DP-42SM is a 42-inch wide-screen extended-definition digital plasma television with native 480p resolution that sits an ultra-slim 3.2 inches deep. The display boasts extremely high brightness and a 1500:1 contrast ratio, with 1,000 cd/m2 peak luminance and a wide 160-degree viewing angle. A digital 3D comb filter assures sharp images, while the unit's Dynamic Pixel Management system provides burn-in protection capabilities. Also included are a five-band equalizer sound control and a still image capture function, among other conveniences. The set is currently available with an MSRP of $3,499.
