Daewoo Demonstrates The Latest In Wireless Home Entertainment
Technology At CES (8/1/2004)
Daewoo Electronics America, Inc. demonstrated
its first applications of wireless home entertainment today, developed
in partnership with ViXS Systems, the industry's leading developer
of video networking chipsets and software, at the International
Consumer Electronics Show.
Daewoo Electronics is using ViXS' XCode II
video processor and Matrix high performance standard compliant 802.11a
chipsets to develop technologies and products for streaming high-quality
video over local area networks. The video networking technology
provides guaranteed wireless delivery of multiple standard and high-definition
(HD) video streams over an 802.11a network throughout a home.
The technology offers broad flexibility for
tech-minded users to configure their home entertainment systems
as they choose. For example, the technology affords the ability
to transmit video from a single source, like a DVD player or satellite
receiver, to multiple receivers within the home. Even greater mobility
is possible via a quadruple signal transfer system that could simultaneously
stream video to a television, notebook computer, a web pad and/or
a PDA.
"Today the consumer wants a wireless home
network," said Chul Lee, president and chief executive officer for
Daewoo Electronics America, Inc. "however, sending high-quality
video signals is extremely challenging." "To overcome this obstacle,
ViXS has provided us with the perfect compliment to our line of
audio/video products for the home with their XCode II and Matrix
chipsets. ViXS' chipsets offer unparalleled wireless video processing
quality and are optimized for use with high quality video like HDTV."
The ViXS' XCode video processor can adjust
the bit-rates, resolutions and formats of multiple MPEG video streams
in real time, adapting each stream to changing network bandwidth.
By managing the video stream, XCode II is the first product able
to guarantee HDTV and DVD quality video over an 802.11 network.
ViXS' Matrix is a high-performance, RF dual-channel 802.11a chipset
that guarantees delivery of video streams--including HDTV--to multiple
devices over a wireless IP network. ViXS' technology enables products
such as digital video recorder set-top boxes to reliably distribute
multiple broadcast-quality video streams to any networked display
device (such as HDTVs, plasma and LCD TV monitors, PDAs, web tablets,
and personal computers) in the home.
ViXS Systems has developed technology for
distributing broadcast-quality video across 802.11 wireless networks,
providing manufacturers of consumer electronics, personal computers,
and set-top boxes with a proven technology that operates with standards-based
local area networks.
